Polyester prices are now slightly dropping in China, over a weakness of intermediate prices after crude oil has lost about 17% in a single month. Demand for polyester could however support prices after cotton has surged across the board in the last month. Our weekly report covers the Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) and Polyester Filament Yarn (PFY) prices on the domestic market, including a price comparison of polyester staple fibers with cotton and viscose. The gross margin of polyester spun yarn producers is also released.

Other fiber prices have remained very flat by contrast, ignoring the overall rebound of commodity prices, as reflected by our year-to-date tables and charts. Whatever the fall of crude oil prices in the current period, polyester intermediate prices look stabilized by a need to replenish inventories in the polyester chain and the surge of cotton prices having supported demand for polyester. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices.
