The engineer will be member of a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting operational and future programmes. A core activity will be the support to the maintenance and evolution of the EPS Front End Processing Facility FEP, the EPS Product Generation Facility PGF and MSG Image Processing Facility IMPF data processing systems. PROFILE In In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory skills and significant and relevant experience in Engineering of large, complex, realtime data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration Operating or maintaining software systems in a UNIX or LINUX based environment Software build environments and tools e.g. IBM XL C and GCC compilers, make, automake, autoconf, RPM Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems e.g. primarily Subversion, Git CC programming language experience in a UNIX or LINUX based environment Scripting languages e.g. Perl, shell Analysis and processing of softwaregenerated reports and logfiles Web technologies and programming e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript Networking technologies and tools e.g. Space Data Link Protocols, TCPIP, UDP multicast, PGM, FTP, Wireshark Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation, e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following areas will be an advantage Support to the management of the technical interface with external providers or clients Satellite Earth observation processing systems, especially experience in the areas of specification, design and implementation of large satellite instrumentrelated data processing systems andor subsystems. User interface design and programming Other programming languages, primarily Java Distributed computing and parallel processing XML and related technologies Performance analysis and improvement including Performance monitoring tools and techniques e.g. top, NMON, iostat, sar, etc. ECSS Standards, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management principles and applications. Basic UNIXLINUX System Administration Operating systems and application software upgrades andor porting to new platforms Familiarity with data formats used at EUMETSAT, such as the Metop and NOAA global data formats, EPS native data format Objectoriented software design, implementation, and maintenance, including the use of UMLSysML based tools for supportingdocumenting the design, at least at the architectural level. Fluency in English is mandatory and a working knowledge of French would be an advantage, together with good communication skills. TASKS The core task of the Key Person, as a member of the Processing Applications Engineering PAE Team within the SEP DPSA CA, shall be to support the maintenance and evolution of the EPS and MSG data processing facilities, in particular the EPS FEPPGF and the MSG IMPF. The Key Person shall also provide support to the maintenance and evolution of the IDRS facility and the NRT processing centre of SARAL, and may also be assigned to similar tasks in the context of any other activity within the scope of the DPSA CA. The Key Person duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures. For procurements and maintenance services provided externally, the Key Person shall provide support to the management of the technical interface with the external contractors. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Person will also be expected to contribute to requirements specification, design and system engineeringreengineering, development and testing activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support during special activities for limited periods of time e.g. short periods during spacecraft commissioninglaunch phases as part of a team of maintenance engineers. The tasks will include Maintenance and development of the Data Processing SystemsApplication Software it should be noted that for many of the facilities the first line maintenance is being performed by EUMETSAT in conjunction with the industrial contractor the second line maintenance is being performed by the industrial contractor under supervision and with support from EUMETSAT Support to procurement activities for maintenance and evolution activities, such as specification and maintenance of requirements for new or enhanced Data Processing SystemsApplications Software components that are going to be implemented by external contractors monitor their detailed design and implementation generate the test plans, test specificationprocedures, perform the acceptance of the externally developed components, support the integration testing in the ground segment and the operational validation Contribute to the definition and design of architectures of data processing ground segments and their components, their interfaces, and the validation and verification methods Coordinationinputs to planning and preparation of releases Coordination with other EUMETSAT Teams andor contractor to prepare introduction of newupgraded components Generation and maintenance of technical baseline documentation Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools required to fulfil them Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as o Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification o Participation in relevant Anomaly Review Boards o Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies o Support to Configuration Management change control practices o Support to building and distribution of application software releases and patches o Verification of correct facility installation for the assigned facilities o Support to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing o Perform SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling o the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected How to apply Please consider the following points before applying Please submit your complete application documents in English. TASKS Heshe is responsible for the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of operational simulators. The following main tasks are involved specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaign and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the ICT systems and services participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. PROFILE Knowledge required includes knowledge and experience in the ESOC software engineering methodology and standards competence in modern computer languages such as C, C, Java, UML, XML, SQL familiarity with the ESOC software development environments and systems, including DOORS familiarity with relevant operating systems, including LINUX . The working language for the position is English and therefore the keyperson must be able to work effectively in this language. TASKS The IASI and GOME2 Engineer, will be responsible to follow up the instrument project and shall report to the LEO Instrument Team Leader. The tasks of the IASI and GOME2 Engineer shall include the following Monitoring of the r ep a i r and subsequent tests of IASI. Monitor and support the GOME2 on ground cal ibration. Participation to Metop satellite AIV, Launch and Commissioning activities relevant to both IASI and GOME2. Participation to instrument acceptance and handover reviews and other meetings with industry and other partners such as ESA, CNES as well as internal meetings. Analyse and assess the onground and inorbit performances of IASI and GOME2. Investigation of onground and inorbit instrument anomalies and support operations to the relevant recovery actions. Provide general support to the Metop Operations Team for IASI and GOME 2 matters. Support inorbit checkout verification tests during MetopC In Orbit Verification IOV. Preparation and maintenance of instrument related documents, as well as presentation material Maintenance of regular contacts with the above mentioned EUMETSAT partners in relation to IASI and GOME2. Support to other Instruments Although support to IASI and GOME2 is the primary task of the Key person, heshe may be requested to provide a similar type of management and engineering support to the LEO Instrument Team Leader for other instruments.. PROFILE The Key person is required to have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with the minimum of supervision and minimum training. The Key person shall have a university degree in engineering or physics and a background of at least 5 years in space hardware projects mainly in the area of optical instruments. Experience in project management positions is required together with the ability to follow satellite level Payload AIV activities. The Key person shall also have some knowledge of PAQA processes and procedures and good general computing skills, with familiarity with Microsoft Office software Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.. Previous experience in AIVAIT and commissioning activities is regarded as advantageous along with experience of working on a collaborative programme between different partners. The working language for the position is English and therefore the keyperson must be able to work effectively in this language. Data Processing Systems Applications Engineer MW

The engineer gives support to the Data Processing Systems and Applications Group of the SEP Division to assist in the specification, preliminary design, procurement, integration, testing and transfer to operations of Data Processing elements for future programmes under development and the maintenance and evolution of data processing systems and applications for existing programmes. Support is envisaged in the context of EPSSG and EPS but the key person may be also assigned to similar tasks in the context of other programmes Ground Segment data processing elements cover the complete data processing chain for all mission instruments, from demodulation and frontend processing of data received from the satellites to generation of Level 1 and Level 2 products via dedicated instrument data processors and their distribution to other Ground Segment elements for archiving and dissemination. This also includes the processing infrastructure required for hosting, coordinating, monitoring and controlling the Level 1 and Level 2 instrument data processors. TASKS The consultant will provide engineering support to the EPSSG Ground Segment Data processing team in the frame of the EPSSG Preparatory Programme Phase B as well as to the Operations department in the frame of maintenance and evolution of the EPS data processing systems. The Consultant will support activities related to initially Phase B followed by phases CD of the EPSSG Programme in the area of data processing engineering. In this context attention is drawn to the mandatory nature of the programme. In the detail, support will be provided for the following tasks In Phase B Requirements engineering in DOORS for EPSSG data processing requirements. This includes review, specification and refinement of existing requirements, their uptraces to parent Ground Segment specifications, justifications and verification methods Ensure coherency of requirements with algorithms specifications Definition of ICDs between data processing elements and other GS functions Definition of Testing and Operational scenarios for data processing elements Definition of data processing concepts and tradeoffs to support requirements understanding and justification. In Phase CD Support the procurement of data processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the contractor and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements Support management of the requirements baseline for data processing elements Support refinement of ICDs Support testing, integration and acceptance of data processing elements. In Phase E Support to maintenance activities, including characterisation of system component behaviour against required performance, proposal and implementation of system alterations including component modification to achieve required performance. Support to evolution activities, including conceptual design, requirements specification, functional modelling, system analysis, and concept development to support increased performance, rationalisation of components, and cost reduction. In addition, there will be regular involvement in the following tasks requiring interaction and coordination with other teams at System and Ground Segment level Review of System, Space Segment and Ground Segment documentation dealing with requirements, concepts, algorithms and technical analyses of relevance for data processing, including review of instrument data processing algorithms and calibration concepts defined by the Space Segment with emphasis on their implications on Ground Segment data processing concepts, interfaces and architecture Participation in formal reviews and technical meetings at System and Ground Segment level. Review of documentation dealing with technical evolutions of the EUMETSAT infrastructure The performance of these tasks shall comply with the EUMETSAT organisational and divisional rules, management standards and working practices. The set of applicable rules and working practices will be made available at start of the duties in EUMETSAT. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent, including experience in the engineering, physics, or software or similar domains the key persons shall have the following mandatory attributes, skills, and experience. Relevant experience in preparation of requirements, design, interfaces and testing documentation for data processing systems for Earth Observation missions experience on data processing for high data rates missions will be considered an asset. Relevant experience with L1L2 processing software for Earth Observation missions, either for operationsmaintenance or specification and development. Knowledge of the requirements engineering process, including relation between requirements, ICDs, design and testing documentation. Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of EPSSG. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use ofinformation presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Previous experience and knowledge in any of the following areas will be considered an additional asset knowledge of the IBM DOORS tool or an equivalent for requirements management Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the keyperson must be able to work effectively in this language.
