Galileo Ground Segment Operations Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be supporting the Galileo Constellation Operations unit. You will have the following responsibilities Monitoring the activities of the Operations Service provider on its operations and maintenance activities of the Galileo Control Segment in the GCCs and the remote sites Followup the development, integration, verification and operational validation of the Galileo Ground Control segment within the context of the overall Galileo system Support the development of requirements for evolution of the Galileo Control Segment to improve operability Support the procurement process for the Operations Service Provider for the Ground Control Segment maintenance and operations aspects, and monitor their implementation Support and coordinate the interaction between the Operations and the Ground Control Segment providers, ensuring the coherency of the maintenance and operations concept for the Control Segment Participation on Galileo related Anomaly Review Boards, Change Control Boards, reviews panels, as required. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent education in Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering Senior engineering experience in ground control of similarly complex computer infrastructure deployed for space operation related activities Proven experience in a commercialindustrial environment is required Experience related to the Galileo project GIOVE, IOV would be an asset Eligibility to obtain Galileo Security Clearance to the level of Secret Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Tasks The Galileo Project requires engineering service support for monitoring and controlling the overall preparation of the ground segment and execution of the Galileo operations activities. The service will support the activities of the Galileo Constellation Operations Unit HSOOGC in the coordinating of the definition, deployment, validation, and operation of the Galileo Ground Control infrastructure, as required to meet the overall Galileo service needs. The Ground Control Segment infrastructure is deployed and operated mainly in the Galileo Control Centre GCC in Oberpfaffenhofen Germany and Fucino as backup. In addition GCS elements are deployed at the LEOP centres Darmstadt, Toulouse. Remote elements, like the five SBand TTCF stations, are deployed around the globe. Essential requirements Significant experience of senior engineering activities in ground control of similarly complex computer infrastructure deployed for space operation related activities. A proven experience in in a commercialindustrial environment is required. Experience related to developments in the Galileo project GIOVE, IOV will be considered an asset. Based at Oberpfaffenhofen D, the work will require regular travelling to ESOC, ESTEC, Fucino IT and other European sites. The service providers should have Academic Requirements University degree or equivalent education in Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. Security Requirements The contractor personnel will be required to hold a Galileo Security Clearance to the level of Secret. Other Information Start date is forseen to be 1st June 2014. Tasks STCII is the central monitoring and control system for ESA ground stations. It is currently deployed on eight ground stations of the ESA tracking network. The system is responsible for monitoring and controlling all ground station equipment, to apply all configurations necessary to support tracking of spacecraft and to receive telemetry from and to send telecommands to the spacecraft. The STCII system uses a configuration database, which configures the online system to operate on different ground stations and to support different spacecraft missions. Preparation of the configuration databases is supported by the socalled Ground Station Tailoring System GSTS. Emphasis of the project is in particular on the maintenance and the continuous development of the configuration databases.
