Millicom third-quarter revenues down 6.5% YoY, customer base up 2%

(Telecompaper) Millicom, owner of Tigo-branded operations across Latin America and Africa, reported a 6.5 percent year on year fall in revenues to USD 1.03 billion in the third quarter of 2020, impacted by the ongoing effects on its business of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the company was keen to emphasise that the result was an improvement on the 8.0 percent decline posted in the previous quarters as lockdowns eased in most of its countries and the improved performance that began in June continued in the July to September period with robust customer growth. On a year-on-year basis, service revenue declined 3.1 percent organically, improving from a 6.8 percent fall in Q2, with EBITDA down 6.1 percent year on year to USD 581 million. Third-quarter net loss improved to USD 51 million from a negative USD 131 million a year earlier.

Veon returns to customer growth in Q3, takes Russia writedown on weak sales

(Telecompaper) Veon reported a return to customer growth in the third quarter, as coronavirus restrictions were gradually lifted in its markets. The decline in organic revenues slowed to 1.3 percent year-on-year, and the company maintained its forecast for a low to mid single-digit decline over the full year. With underlying EBITDA stable in the quarter, the margin improved to 45.1 percent from 44.4 percent a year ago.

Maroc Telecom 9-month revenues rise slightly, customer base up 4%

(Telecompaper) Maroc Telecom Group's total revenues increased by 0.7 percent to MAD 27.50 billion in the first nine months to 30 September from MAD 27.31 billion in the same period in 2019. The resilience of international activities partially offset the decline in revenues in Morocco, which were hit by the Covid-19 crisis. The group's customer base increased by 4.3 percent to 70.5 million compared to 2019, with subsidiary customer bases up by 7.3 percent, fixed lines up by 6.7 percent and fixed broadband customers up by 10.4 percent in Morocco.
