Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Operation Centre ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. The primary area of responsibility for this service is the JCSSentinel6 and Sentinel3 missions with possible extensions to support other Earth Observation missions. The Operations Engineer will be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities in the areas of System Engineering including platform and FDIR and instruments altimetry and optical as a member of the FCT Flight Control Team, to participate in the preoperational phases including special operations e.g. LEOP, commissioning, deorbiting and in testing campaigns simulations, SVT Software Validation Tests, inflight tests. The general activities to be supported by the Spacecraft Operations Engineer are Participation in the Analysis and Design of Satellite Operations. Preparation of Flight Control and Contingency Procedures. Mission Management and Mission Planning Support Service. Preparation of and Participation in the Commissioning Phase. General Flight Control Support Service. Participation to Requirements Definition, Validation, Test and Operation of the MCS Mission Control Systems including the Mission Planning System. Participation to Requirements Definition, Validation, Test and Operation of the Simulator. Flight Operations Procedures FOP Requirements Definition. Flight Operations Segment FOS Procurement, Integration and Testing. Qualifications and Experience For this position we are looking for engineers with the following background and skills Handson familiarity with operational tools MCS, Simulator, DB browser, MOIS or equivalent tools. Handson familiarity with SVT and flight procedures development. Ability to work in an organised manner, with good reporting skills and reliabley meeting deadlines.. Coordination skills with internal Flight Control Team, and external parties. Fluency in English, sproken and written. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarity with low Earth orbit satellites, including basic mission analysis and payload observation scheduling aspects. Familiarity with the basic usage of orbit and environment analysis tools e.g. STK. For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Ground Stations Operations Engineer at EUMETSAT. Tasks This position for consultancy support for a Ground Stations Operations Engineer required for daytoday operations and evolutions of the current EUMETSAT ground stations including MSG, MTP and EPS systems. It is also required that the key person provides support to the development, operations preparation and eventually routine operations phases of the future programmes EPSSG, MTG and JCS. The Key Person will support the Ground Stations and External Interfaces GSEI team within the RSO division and shall support the daily operations of the Ground Stations and their interfaces to the other components of the ground segments to ensure their maximum availability and reliability. This role will focus on the ground stations supporting EUMETSATs geostationary GEO satellites MTP, MSG and MTG but the engineer will also be expected to support the low earth orbit LEO stations when required. In addition, the Key Person will be expected to acquire and maintain Systemwide knowledge of the Ground Segments, particularly in the areas of spacecraft monitoring control and the flow of mission data, due to the central role the ground station plays in spacecraft and ground segment operations. The tasks will include Longterm planning and shortterm scheduling of the operational usage of the ground stations to support both the needs of the Flight Operations Division FLO and Ground Stations engineering team Interface with project teams for the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects and major activities described in the Operational System MidTerm Evolution Plan. This will include ground station changes required to support major space segment evolutions Interfacing with the ground stations maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance by the ground stations, including participating in the definition, specification and implementation of any changes Planning and coordination of upgrades, repairs and evolutions with the engineering teams and FLO division Organising the validation of these upgrades, repairs and evolutions with the Controller Teams Definition and maintenance of ground station operations procedures and operations guides Maintaining operational ground stations databases Investigation into anomalies, their documentation, classification and correctionmitigation, participation in associated Anomaly Review Boards Provision of training, through production and presentation of written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Department The role will require good communications skills, to allow the effective communication of information under a variety of circumstances. The Key Person should be used to working proactively within team and being able to work with the minimum of supervision. The variety of the tasks and the scope and complexity of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. During critical operational periods or following major maintenance upgrades, the engineer will also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of ground station engineers. Essential requirements In addition to having a university degree in a relevant technical discipline or the equivalent ground stations experience, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes At least five years experience in ground stations TTC operations in support of multiple Geostationary GEO andor Low Earth Orbit LEO spacecraft At least five years experience in a realtime 247 spacecraft operations environment, ideally in an earth observation environment Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills Desirable requirements Experience of the following would be a distinct advantage Major upgrades or evolutions of operational ground stations Defining and implementing the verification and validation of ground stations Interfaces between ground stations and ground segments Firstline hardware and software failure diagnosis and correction Baseband operation and configuration Other Information Start date is 1st January 2017 Fluency in English is mandatory To apply please visit www.scisys.despacejobs
