ResponsibilitiesDuties You are passionate about space flight dynamics and looking for a meaningful opportunity to enfold your talents? Then you are on the right track! We are supporting the European Space Agency with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre ESOC in Darmstadt. For a new service position within flight dynamics division we are searching for a flight dynamics authority to complement our international service team! You will support and execute operational tasks within the Orbit Determination section for Earth observation missions including Aeolus, Cryosat and Swarm and potentially missions in preparation phases like Biomass and FLEX. This includes execution of and support to operational tasks, processing of tracking data, determination and prediction of the spacecraft orbital state and the generation of orbit related products such as orbit predictions. In addition, you will specify and implement improvements and additions to existing software elements for computation of the dynamical behaviour of satellites, typically on Linux workstations. You will install the software on the operational platforms and design, coordinate and perform the testing. Furthermore you will participate in system tests and mission simulation campaigns, contribute to space studies with the evaluation of flight dynamics aspects, and coordinate internal and external interfaces and activities across subsystems. Essential Skills The ideal candidate we are looking for contributes to our service team with the following characteristics An outstanding expertise in linear algebra and applied mechanics, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical mathematical and dynamical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Proficiency in definition, implementation, validation and operation of software which applies the above solutions, using Linux scripting, C and Fortran 90 as main programming languages Desire to extend technical skills. A high sense of operational responsibility and good communication skills. Aspiration to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Desirable Skills Additional desirable skills are Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Previous operational experience in Flight Dynamics or spacecraft missions in general. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration. The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. Position Reference 800 We are currently looking for a Flight Dynamics Operations Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. The key person will be primarily assigned to a particular service within the Earth Observation Missions but with the possibility of supporting other service andor missions. The service to be provided is primarily related to the routine operations of Earth Explorers Aeolus, Cryosat and Swarm. Services may also be requested related to Earth Explorers in preparation phase Biomass, FLEX and other Earth orbiting missions. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Orbit Determination, Prediction and Products Generation Execution of and support to operational tasks. Processing of tracking data. Determination and prediction of spacecraft orbital state. Generation of orbit related products such as orbit event predictions. Flight Dynamics Application Layer Maintenance of elements of the Flight Dynamics Application Layer Flight Dynamics System Development. Specification of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software lments. Implementation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software lments. Installation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements on operational platforms design, coordination and implementation of tests. Participation in tests. The team, located in the ESOC Network Operations Centre, provides support using a variety of computer and network hardware and software. As NOC Technician you will concentrate your activities on the following Liaise with spacecraft and mission operations engineers as well as staff on duty at other support units, ground stations and external Agencies to establish and continuously maintain a comprehensive overview on the availability of and the demand for utilization of resources provided by the ground segment facilities. Supervise and coordinate scheduled support activities. Monitor the progress of station configurations for satellite passes through voice coordination or remote monitoring systems. Schedule Ground Stations and OCC facilities in realtime outside normal working hours. Configure and monitor station configurations for satellite passes as well as data transmissions and performance. Respond immediately to any anomaly affecting operations relevant procedures shall be initiated and 1st line maintenance activities executed as required in order to restore operations. Document and track anomalies, call out 2nd3rd party supportescalate and followup on incident resolution. Reporting and documentation. Act as first line of contact for users of critical systems. Provide 1st line computer and network support to all eligible users including incident, problem, change request and user requestcomplaints handling. Actively monitor all operational IT systems, applications and networks and react immediately on potential issues or outages by Logging and escalating incident tickets according to procedure Identify the impacted servicesusers and inform all relevant parties Initiate incident resolution or mitigating actions to restore the service asap Call outescalate to 2nd line support or external providers according to procedure Followup on incident resolutionprogress and inform interested parties of the status Prioritise work according to criticality of systems, schedules and targets. Operation, fault finding and repair on the network and on active network components CISCO using Ethernet and TCPIP protocols and by logging oncommanding active network components. In line with procedures perform contingency and scheduled reconfigurations, hardware and software maintenance, test and remedial activity, so as to minimise resource impact. Perform various housekeepingadministrative duties. Work to predefined schedules and service levels, actively participate in recommending technical and procedural improvements to benefit the service. Provide round the clock cover in a rotating shift pattern, with adequate information handover between shifts. Maintain a log of all relevant activities and events.
