Mission Control Operations Engineering Support 1313063 Job Description The selected engineer will provide support to the development and operation of the MSG Ground Segment and the EPS Overall Ground System. Main duties are the operation of the MSG Central Facility and the EPS Mission Control System, and supporting operational use of Mission Control Facility Tools and the mission controlrelated multimission tools. The role comprises a range of tasks including the provision of support to the routine operation of the MCS, and the interfaces between the MCS and other components of the EPS Core Ground Segment. The selected engineer will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures related to the operation of the MCS and these interfaces, in accordance with the established configuration management and quality assurance practices. In addition, the engineer will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the MSG System, and the EPS CGS and OGS, particularly in the areas of system monitoring control and data flows, due to the central role the CF and MCS play in the MSG and EPS Systems. The engineer will review any planned changes to the system configuration and support in the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine operations. As part of a team of MCS engineers, the engineer will also provide oncall support. Furthermore, support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs, and for future operational programs now in development will be required. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline At least seven years work experience in the operation of spacecraft control systems At least five years work experience developing andor maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software At least five years work experience developing andor maintaining software for a UNIX operating system At least two years work experience with the SCOS spacecraft control system At least wo years work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software Work proactively in an individual or team environment, with the minimum of supervision Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills and be confident to deal with a wide variety of people and to influence at all levels Fluency in English Desirable Skills and Experience Extensive experience at least three years in the use of databases and SQLrelated querying in relation to spacecraft mission control systems Extensive experience at least three years in the definition, development, integration and acceptance testing of spacecraft mission control systems Extensive experience at least three years in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO and Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems Experience of using configuration management systems such as CVS Experience of using satellite simulators Familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring Control Systems Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS Packet Utilisation Standard, etc. Familiarity with flight dynamics and mission planning functions and systems as applied to satellite operations Familiarity with EPOCH IPS MC product suite from Integral Systems now Kratos Windows and Linux operating systems Leading a small team of engineers Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 02 September 2013 Start of Work 01 January 2014 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career. The engineer will support the integration and verification testing of the Monitoring Control System, but will also support integration and verification activities at Mission Control Function level including Flight Dynamics and Mission Planning Systems. The typical tasks will include Integration and Verification Activities Generation and updates of test plans and test procedures Generation of test data and test tools Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns Software Maintenance Activities Technical Management User Support and training Software Engineering Methodologies Analysis activities focused on a common software engineering methodology Development of tools Required Skills and Experience University degree in related field. Extensive experience minimum 3 years in integration activities for Satellite Monitoring Control Systems. This includes software deployment, software configuration, adjustment of interfaces and troubleshooting of problems both at subsystem and system level. Extensive experience minimum 3 years in verification testing activities of Satellite Monitoring Control Systems following formal software engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system and generation of test reports. Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the investigation of software anomalies and verification testing of fixes, preferably in the domain of Satellite Monitoring Control Systems. Experience using tools for the automation of software testing. Experience in the maintenance of software applications following formal software engineering processes including at least configuration management, change management and anomaly reporting and tracking. Experience in developing and maintaining software applications using C and Java under UNIX operating systems. Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting. Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems. Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools. Fluency in English. Work correctly under stress and with the minimum of supervision.
