Summary An experienced engineer is required to support the System Modelling and Functional Verification Section of the Software Systems Division at ESTEC. Objective The engineer will provide support for the AIT activities of the Aeolus project, covering all necessary phases up to the launch of the satellite. In the execution of his tasks, the AITAIV Engineer will liaise closely with other members of the project team. In performing the tasks, heshe will be further supported by experts from the Technical Directorate as required. Responsibilities Duties The engineer will be required to travel to the satellite prime contractors premises frequently and to act as onsite support where appropriate during the satellite test and launch campaigns. The tasks include Monitoring the AITAIV plans produced by the satellite prime contractor and ensuring that they are coherent and consistent with the baseline schedule via regular AIT meetings at the prime contractors premises. Identifying potential risks to the schedule and identifying workaround solutions and risk mitigations which can be implemented Participating to TRRs and PTRs as the representative of the project in coordination with the ADMAeolus Instrument and AIT, Engineering and PA Managers. Participating in NRBs and TRBs as one of the representatives of the project and ensure that there is adequate support for AIT activities and AIT reviews, both within industry and ESA Ensuring that all GSE is complete, configured and properly verified in time for AIT activities and that all SW and Automated Procedures required for SC verification are consistent with the need Reviewing AIT procedures with the support of project and DTEC technical responsibles. In particular, that the test procedures properly define the requirements to be verified by the test and that these verifications are properly traced to the test report and the VCD. Supporting the Engineering manager in Verification Control Boards Supporting the Aeolus launch campaign ensuring the launch facilities are in a state of readiness for the satellite and are inspected and verified, that transfer of all GSE is completed and that these are verified prior to satellite launch readiness preparation consistent with the need. Monitoring the completeness of all AITAIV activities up to launch in accordance with an agreed launch operations plan Qualifications Experience University degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent. The candidate shall have practical experience of working in AIT Extensive experience of system level functional and performance testing Experience of at least one complete satellite test and launch campaign in an AITAIV role Essential Skills Excellent knowledge of satellite verification engineering Demonstrated knowledge of GSE operations and infrastructure Other information Note that it is expected that the time at the satellite primes premises in Airbus Stevenage as onsite support will be a minimum of 50 of hisher total allocated time, as well as 100 supporting the launch campaign onsite. The engineer is expected to act as an integrated member of the contractors AITAIV team in relevant phases, e.g. during extensive thermal test campaign in Centre Spatial de Lige CSL Belgium. Background A range of roles within the team are envisaged including detailed studies into the calibration of specific instruments, management of routine QC and calval activities and the development and testing of new data processing software. Support is particularly required for ATSR Calibration StudyThis is a researchstyle project, the aim of which is to explore and verify the calibration of the SWIR channel across all three ATSR instruments and looking forward to the SLSTR instrument using accepted community standards, for both nadir and forward viewing geometries, by Conducting a literature review to establish current best practice in SWIR calibration and approaches used for the ATSR instruments so far. Researching possible reference data sets that could be used for the verification. One particular goal is to compare ATSR SWIR data with an additional CEOS reference site httpcalvalportal.ceos.orgceoslandnetsites. Other possibilities include techniques using cloud targets and sunglint. Conducting an intercomparison interrogating the ATSR data, comparing to the reference data and reporting results. Prototyping any newrevised processing software routines.
