KPN sells data centre unit NLDC to DWS

(Telecompaper) KPN announced that it has reached agreement to sell its data centre subsidiary NLDC to a fund managed by DWS, a global infrastructure investment manager and part of Deutsche Bank, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction is part of the Dutch operator's efforts to simplify its business to focus on core assets and increase its financial flexibility.

Can you apply your knowledge and expertise in data centre operations to ensure our Users maintain a steady access to satellite data, products and Climate Date Records? The Role Bring your experience of data centre operations, ideally gained from managing meteorological data, to help us provide services to our users. You will coordinate the routine operations activities of our data centre, ensuring that our provision of data services is accessible to our users. Your insights will contribute to the plans for routine operations and you will identify ways to harmonise engineering, maintenance and evolutions of all the data, products and Climate Data Records generated by EUMETSAT. You will interface with our user community, supervising anomaly investigation in the Data Centre Archives, monitoring support services supplied by contractors, and supporting the User Helpdesk. You must have experience of netCDF Format, along with other meteorological and earth observation data formats, metadata specifications and related tools. You need to be an experienced programmer, comfortable working in a variety of programming languages. We are looking for someone who has experience of the full software development lifecycle and the relevant industry standards. Our data processing systems are complex, so you will need to be able to use your analytical and planning skills, often coordinating activities in a matrix environment. You will have the ability to synthesise technical information and to provide updates to the management team as required. You must enjoy working in a team and be able to communicate complex information effectively, both in person and on paper. Telefonica mulling sale of data centre business - report

(Telecompaper) Telefonica is evaluating the sale of its data centre business with a view to cutting down its debt pile, according to unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg. The company has hired financial advisers and is currently in the process of gauging interest from potential buyers including data centre specialist firms as well as infrastructure and private-equity funds, said the sources, adding that the sale could earn the Spanish group EUR 500 million to EUR 1 billion, depending on the assets included.
