A vacancy for an EDRS Operations Engineering and Mission Support mf has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Munich Ottobrunn. The successful applicant will join France Satcom System Engineering. EDRS European Data Relay System is a satellite based high data rate communication system for relaying Earth Observation data received from Low Earth Orbit LEO satellites via geostationary satellites directly to the ground for further distribution. EDRS is a PPP program between ESA and Airbus. The overall system consists of the space segment two geostationary satellites and the ground segment. The first GEO satellite EDRSA will be launched first half of 2015 and the second GEO satellite is planned for third quarter 2016. Airbus Defence and Space is the prime contractor and responsible for the management and implementation of the programme and the subsequent provision of the data relay service to ESA and other customers over a period of minimum 15 years. In this role, you will support the operations engineering team in the area of procedure definition and supervision of procedure implementation, testing and acceptance with main focus on payload flight operations. After the launch your tasks will also include engineering support to mission operations until final handover to the operations team. You will report to the head of the operation engineering team. Regular shift work is not required with exception for LEOP and IOT support. Please note that this is a fixedterm contract of 15 months. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Review of operational products delivered by spacecraft suppliers Specification of payload flight operation procedures based on inputs from spacecraft suppliers Supervision of flight procedure implementation and verification Support of technical procurement, operational readiness review as well as LEOP and IOT activities Support of user commissioning and final acceptance Technical assessment of nonconformances, discrepancies and waivers Coordination with EDRS system engineering Support of the EDRS quality management process and programme management We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Educated to degree level in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Experience with communication payloads as well as with ESA and ESA standards Experience with databases, XML, Python, Java or equivalent as well as Unix and Windows based operating systems Profound knowledge of space system operations Basic knowledge in flight dynamics would be an asset Ability to steer subcontractors and to operate in a multinational team Autonomous, proactive and cooperative style of working Good communication and interpersonal skills Fluent English skills German skills would be an advantage Please apply on line for this vacancy on line at our careers site www.jobs.airbusgroup.com with your CV attached. For Airbus Defence and Space in Munich Ottobrunn within the area Germany Business Delivery we are looking for an EDRS Misson Operations Center MOC Operator fm. The European Data Relay System EDRS is a satellite based communication system, for the relay of Earth Observation data received from Low Earth Orbit LEO satellites via a geostationary satellite to the ground. It will be the first ever commercial communication system using laser technology. Airbus Defence and Space is set to become the systems operator and will provide data relay services to its customers. Operations will start in 2015. The EDRS Service and Operations team is being built up, to provide the data relay service from the primary Mission Operations Centre, located in Ottobrunn Germany. You will be a member of the Operations team in charge of performing the following activities during the operational hours of the Primary Mission Operations Centre PMOC Supervision of system performance and of automatic service provision to customers Maintenance of actual mission planning data and the mission schedule Supervision of planning processes and reporting to engineering in case of conflicts Supervision of key management processes Monitoring of the health status of all EDRS components Monitoring of service infrastructure and the distributed IP Network Monitoring the use of the satellite payload Level1 response to anomalies, based on procedures Data collection after anomalies Activation of engineering support if required User Help Desk first response during the operational hours of the PMOC Trouble ticket and incident management, including the generation, support and resolution of problems, for network and customer issues Routine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul MRO for EDRS equipment Daily shift handover tofrom the BackUp Mission Operations Centre BMOC in Redu Belgium, in accordance with checklists You will be part of a team of several operators, sharing the above duties. In future stages of the project, shift work may become necessary. All communication relevant to the service will be given in English.
