A vacancy for an experienced RF Systems Engineer with a strong background in payload MPM has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Portsmouth to lead this key area of advanced telecommunications payloads. The successful candidate will join our team of Major Spacecraft Component engineers who collectively oversee the different hardware areas of our telecommunications payloads. The role involves overseeing payload MPM activities across all active projects including specification, problem resolution, validation and in orbit anomaly followup. It also encompasses forward looking aspects such as RD, new product introduction and continuous improvement. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Design discussions Generation of standard specifications Approving project specific specifications in conjunction with the project payload engineering manager and validation engineer Act as technical focal point with input section element suppliers, with a view to creating development plans, resolving technical problems and ensuring design to cost and schedule Ensuring closure on all technical problems and that lessons learned are implemented across all ongoing and future projects Preparingpresenting technical presentations on input section aspects in front of end customers as required Attending and presenting at project design reviews, as necessary Devising and implementing metrics associated with improvements Attending supplier evaluation reviews and making recommendations regarding preferred candidates in terms of design, performance, risk, product policy and design to cost requirements Ensuring validation of input section elements at satellite level once assembled Maintaining an database of all relevant product information. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience BSc in Engineering ElectronicsScience or higher degree in Electronics, Communications or Aerospace Engineering. A strong background and demonstrated competence in payload hardware and technologies applicable to spaceborne communications systems. Proven experience as an RF Engineer, demonstrated competence and in depth knowledge of relevant RF hardware gained in a designdevelopmentproduction environment. Good understanding of Satellite Payloads and the payload process. Experience managing risk and cost elements within an engineering environment. Strong ability in managing relationships and tradeoffs required to manage projects and customers. Proven track record in working in a complex team environment. Team player, well organised, communicative and determined, with the ability to work on their own initiative. Fluent level in English, good level of German Desirable. DUTIES The postholder will work in the Onboard Payload Data Processing Section and will be involved in the field of onboard payload data acquisition, handling processing. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrical and electronics engineering or a related field, supplemented by some years experience in the field of onboard electronics and datahandling systems. Candidates are additionally required to have practical experience of analogue and digital hardware design and development. Knowledge andor experience, as indicated, in one or more of the following areas listed in order of priority would be an asset experience of the design, simulation, manufacturing and testing of spacecraft datahandling equipment, modules, boards and components experience of instrument data acquisition and data processing chain electronics for RF and optical instruments practical experience of high and very highspeed onboard networks knowledgeexperience of the VHDL and Verilog design languages as well as FPGA and ASIC design and development for space applications knowledge of the space environment, related ECSS engineering standards and quality requirements experience of signal processing techniques for both software and hardware development. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should be able to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. Candidates should additionally have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problemsolving and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. The analysis of supplier data and presentation of performance GT, EIRP and Isolation to other groups within Inmarsat. RF test range capabilities and limitations. Provide leadership for antenna aspects in terms of accommodation, coverage and general feasibility for future Inmarsat programmes. Good knowledge and understanding of satellite design, assembly integration test. Excellent writing and reporting skills. Excellent communication skills with people at all levels of the organization.
