Job description Our customer, EUMESAT, will be managing the routine mission operations of the Sentinel3 low Earth orbiting spacecraft for the European Copernicus programme. The first Sentinel3 spacecraft is scheduled for launch in October 2015. We are looking for an experienced senior System and Services Operations Engineer to provide consultancy support to Copernicus Sentinel3 operations as part of the System Operations Team of the RealTime services and System Operations RSO Division at EUMETSAT. Responsibilities The Copernicus Sentinel3 System and Services Operations Engineer SSyOE will provide support to the operation of the Sentinel3 Ground System, as well as its evolution. The main duties within the Sentinel3 programme will include the support to System operations in a realtime operations environment Endtoend operations monitoring Operational interfaces within the ground segment, and to external partners, including maintenance of operational documentation JORP, OICDs, procedures etc. Communications systems operations Security operations Infrastructure operations and evolution Multimission operations, including mass storage and archiving System Evolutions Manual and Automated system and satellite operations including planning and scheduling As the Sentinel3 SSyOE, your role will comprise a range of tasks and responsibilities, including Provision of support to the routine operation of the Sentinel3 ground segment, as well as its evolution to include new functionality and system operations Definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to system operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices Acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the EUMETSAT ground segments, wherever this could impact the Sentinel3 ground segment Review any planned changes to the system configurations for the Sentinel3 ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations Provide support to the operations preparation for recurrent Sentinel3 satellites into the existing systems Interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade, where this affects the Sentinel3 ground segment and system operations The SSyOE will be expected to perform the following routine operations tasks Definition and maintenance of system operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Definition and maintenance of JORPs and OICDs with external partners Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison and coordination with the ground segment facility operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission operations through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes etc. Interface and coordination with the systems maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis. We are looking for a senior Ground Segment System Engineer GSE for the activities mainly related to the Ground Segment of Sentinel 3 within the Ground Segment System Engineering Team of the SEP Division at EUMETSAT. Responsibilities The GSE will support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Sentinel3 Ground Segment maintenance and evolution, including the coordination with the other Sentinel3 Ground Segments centres and Core Ground Stations at architectural and system engineering level, and also for the related functions and interfaces with the EUMETSAT MultiMission Elements. In addition, the GSE shall provide support to the AIV activities during the integration of the S3 ground Segment and shall coordinate the verification of the new systems and their interfaces into the EUMETSATs Sentinel3 ground segment. The GSEs duties will include a range of tasks, including amongst others Preparing and providing support to the daytoday operation and maintenance of the Sentinel3 Ground Segment. Analysis and ground segment level testing of the facilities. Handling of the anomalies raised during the operation of the system Design of upgrades and configuration of changes for these facilities at overall ground segment level. The GSE will be the focal point when it comes to integrating the individual facilities into a ground segment system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including the EUMETSAT MultiMission Elements. Tasks under the responsibility of the GSE will also consist of the maintenance of an uptodate set of Design and Interface Control Documents for the operational systems, performing technical analysis of the system architecture and specification for evolutions or major upgrades of the Sentinel3 Ground Segment. In support to operations, the GSE may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the Sentinel3 commissioning and initial operations phases. PROFILE The engineer shall have the following background Adequate to the requested category N years experience in maintaining and engineering of evolutions of large scale software systems missioninstrument data processing and specially related to DFEP and LO processing in data processing systems. Experience in software development lifecycles Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, DBX, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems, preferably Subversion and CVS Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation.
