Pinterest grows to 1.4 mln Dutch smartphone users

(Telecompaper) 1.4 million Dutch consumers had Pinterest installed on their smartphones in September 2015. That's an increase of 300,000 from six months earlier. The app, which offers a digital 'pinboard' for bookmarking favoured content, is used mainly by women. Only 6 percent of Dutch men had the app installed, compared to 18 percent of women, according to the latest Dutch Apps Market report from Telecompaper.

Spain's Pepephone for sale for EUR 200 mln - report

(Telecompaper) The owners of Spanish MVNO Pepephone have taken steps to sell the operator for around EUR 200 million, according to unnamed sources cited by business daily El Economista. Javier Hidalgo and Rosauro Varo, current owners of Pepephone, have signed up Spanish bank BBVA to look for potential buyers for the operator, said the sources, adding that its modest size wouldn't pose any regulatory problems. Pepephone launched as an MVNO in Spain in 2007 and has reached nearly half a million customers in its domestic market. The operator recently switched to the Movistar (Telefonica) network and has plans to launch in Mexico in March or April 2016, before rolling out its service in Colombia and other Latin American countries.
Telefonica boosts cybersecurity sales to EUR 400 mln a year

(Telecompaper) Telefonica has increased the global revenues arising from its cybersecurity business to EUR 400 million a year, including EUR 100 million in the Spanish corporate sector alone, reports Cinco Dias. Speaking at Telefonica's Security Innovation Day in Madrid, head of cybersecurity Chema Alonso said the company is targeting a 30 percent growth in the segment next year. "We want to be a player in security technologies, which is why we have opted for the development of our own solutions to expand our portfolio of services," said former celebrity hacker Alonso, who now heads Telefonica's digital security subsidiary Eleven Paths. The company took advantage of the event to announce strategic alliances with key players in the security sector including Alien Vault, BlueCoat, Intel Security, Palo Alto Networks, RSA and Vaultive.
World Bank puts USD 56 mln into Gabon ICT

(Telecompaper) Gabon and the World Bank have started preparations for a new USD 56 million eGabon project, which will leverage ICT to promote the country's socioeconomic development. A statement from the World Bank said the eGabon project, will be implemented with the Ministry of Health, ANINF (Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Frequences), and CNAMGS (Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie et de Garantie Sociale). The project aims to improve the performance of the National Health Information System (SNIS) by strengthening its human and financial resources and upgrading health facility equipment and infrastructure.
MIGRANTS: FedEx pledges $1 mln in aid to support humanitarian crisis

FedEx Corp. has committed $1 mln in cash and transportation support to deliver emergency supplies and critical medical aid to the thousands of migrants and refugees escaping conflicts, and provide on-going assistance to both the people and the local communities affected by the crisis. "Humanitarian relief has been in our DNA for decades, and FedEx understands how such a crisis can dramatically alters lives and communities," said David Ross, regional president of FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
