Archangel Lightworks is a startup specialised in space laser communications based in Harwell Space Campus, Oxfordshire. Founded in mid2017, we have secured longterm funding and successfully demonstrated several novel prototypes related to laser transmission and efficient perpendicular solar concentration. Our mission is to make 10x more data download possible to meet the demand from the growing satellites market, especially smallsats, delivering more data from the earth orbit to the ground at higher speed. Role Responsibilities We are passionate about innovation and driven to find new concepts for communications architectures. We are seeking an ambitious and experienced talent with a strong background in electronics design engineering and technical leadership to join our rapidly growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting trade off analyses to inform payload design and optimisation for communication payload electronics in space and highaltitude environments. Specific job responsibilities include but not limited to Responsible for the design, development of a high data rate free optical communication detector and data management system for an airborne payload. Design, assembly of electrical and data subsystems for a nanosatellite laser communication terminal. Verify designs through simulation and laboratory to ensure they meet requirements, working with AIT lead. Design and manufacturing of test equipment, working closely with AIT lead. Analysis of test data and testing equipment, subsystems as required. Planning, completing and documenting validation and qualification testing of new designs. Managing external subcontractors where appropriate Interested applicants may also consider starting first as a fixedterm consultant while rolling into a permanent role although this is less preferred. Required skillsexperience Experience developing high speed electronics for communication applications, ideally in a space environment. Practical experience with digital signal processing methods, hardware, design. Experience designing, testing PCBs. Electronic circuits design, review and component procurement, ideally for a space environment. Extensive soldering experience including surface mount. PLAFPGA design, programming and integration experience for aerospace application. Experience developing electrical subsystems for space environment Proficient English, positive attitude, selfdriven and interested in working in a startup environment Independent, quick learner, can structure and show initiatives to thoroughly evaluate and solve problems from different angles, proactively push progress forward Desirable additional skillsexperience Soldering to Space industry standards Certification would be a plus. Experience designing, implementing free space optical communication systems and relevant electronics, particularly intensity modulation methods OOK, PPM, PAM, detection, noise reduction, signal processing, interleaving, forwards error correction. The successful candidate will be responsible for design, simulation, purchase and implementation of high reliability pointing acquisition and tracking system for a laser communication system. Specific job responsibilities include but not limited to Development of full control system architecture simulation to investigate tradeoffs and inform subsystem requirements. Characterise motion and disturbances of payload platform. This will include planning, execution, documentation of tests. Aiding in definition, implementation and conduction of test and verification plans for pointing of communication subsystem as well as control of airborne platform. Comparison and selection of components, sensors and actuators including supplier management as required. Required skillsexperience Experience implementing complex control systems in an aerospace or communications context. Strong mathematical ability including pure mathematics, linear algebra, statistics and numerical methods. Educated to BSc level or equivalent in Control Engineering or related subject. Role responsibilities We are looking for an innovative, reliable and experienced 25 years Aerospace Product Assurance Quality Assurance PAQA Manager to ensure high output quality aiming to the longterm success of our business and augment our rapidly growing team. Generally speaking your presence should help us delivering great, reliable products services that may even set new industry standards! The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a PA process within our startup, improving industrial processes, product qualitycompliance, and maintaining efficiency. Your duties will include inspecting procedures and outputs, and identifying mistakes or nonconformity issues, and organizing the verification of product. You should have solid experience in quality control together with great attention to details, and be able to make professional conclusions about the quality of products and services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the tradeoff analysis of payload mechanical and electromechanical design for communication payloads and working closely with systems engineering.
