The Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre AITC at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics RSAA has highlevel engineering and scientific teams that develop innovative stateoftheart instrumentation for astronomy, space applications, laser communications and advanced materials. The AITC is participating in the billiondollar international Giant Magellan Telescope project, as well as supporting development and upgrades of existing RSAA telescopes and building instruments for international partners. The AITC offers endtoend professional services and capability for the design, manufacture, integration and test of precision instrumentation and complex systems. The AITC Program requires a highlevel engineer to manage highly specialized equipment and space test facilities. This position aims to provide technical expertise for management, maintenance and improvements of space test facilities including expert advice to external stakeholders on space test requirements, integration and testing of complex astronomical and space equipment. Under the broad direction of the Technical Program Manager, the Space Test Facilities Manager provides daytoday operational management and support for the AITC facilities, including specialised advice to project teams. Space Test Facilities Manager is required to liaise with external clients and stakeholders, prepare services quotes and tender bids, and maintain positive relationships with external organisations. A close working relationship is required with engineers in Mechanical, Optical, Electronics, Software and Detector areas. The Space Test Facilities Manager will also be expected to maintain an up to date knowledge of awareness of stateoftheart technology in the field and may be required to function in a matrix project management structure under the daily direction of project managers. Our Space client based in Harwell, Oxfordshire is seeking an AIT Engineer to play a key role in setting up, establishing and managing the day to day operation of their satellite integration facility in Harwell. You will oversee all associated activities including project management, manufacturing processes, mechanical and thermal engineering requirements and will be in charge of the technical content, schedule and costs of the tasks in the AIT department. As an AIT Operations Manager you will be responsible for the AIT facility launch campaign preparation and performance and play a crucial role in the development in the next generation of space platforms. Reporting to the AIT Manager with technical oversight provided by the Skill lead. The main duties and responsibilities may include Complete Assembly, Integration and Test activities on Satellites Work in accordance with AIT procedures and processes Assembly of the Satellite and subassemblies Validation of the tooling Manufacturingrouting harnesses in accordance with ECSS standards Perform hazardous and critical operations, such as bonding, crimping of flight HW etc in line with the correct standards Assemble MultiLayer Insulation Environmental tests preparation and satellite instrumentation in accordance with the instrumentation plan. Satellite Alignment measurements Solar array operations Tank Operations Thermal test Vibration test Solar array deployment test Mass properties EMC tests Acoustic tests Propulsion leak tests Records test configurations and databases and ensures the traceability of the operations that have been conducted are correctly performed Reviews test results to ensure the quality of the tests carried are acceptable and provide the corresponding test reports as applicable Satellite installation in the transport container Skills, Experience Qualifications Required A minimum of 6 years experience in the Space and Satellite Engineering field Significant skills and experiences related to the duties and responsibilities listed above Build and test experience on Satellites Ideally the candidate would have completed activities on a number of different satellites Training to ECSS standards While specific knowledge of the French and Italian languages is not a prerequisite for this position it would be advantageous
