Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Application Software Support Engineer. You will be supporting the maintenance of the Technical Computing Environment TCE and provide support of the users of the environment within the TSS Department Ground Segment Infrastructure Division team. Your responsibilities will be mainly related to the TCE maintenance, further development and the production of software on the TCE. You will provide support to the development and maintenance of the TCE. Your duties will range from maintaining and creating software packages, advice and support for programmers working with the TCE to the proposal of new solutions that are needed to support ongoing developments. This also includes the settingup and implementation of the tools and defining the best practices for software developers and the definition of the future TCE design in close cooperation with the TCE system administrators. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Maintenance of the development servers and workstations Maintenance of the development tools, such as compilers, libraries, etc Maintenance of Continuous Integration Tools and source code repositories Support of software developers in the area of system programming and interface definition Design and implementation of new software packages that are needed to support ongoing projects and which are providing common services to all users Contribution to the analysis and planning of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems Support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources Provision of standbyoncall support if needed under special circumstances Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Standby callout support, if required This is a fulltime position with the planned start ASAP. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree, in the domain of engineering, science, or other suitable qualification. In addition to the degree the candidates shall have extensive experience in the support of distributed systems based on UNIX. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The Key Person will support the Ground Stations and External Interfaces GSEI team within the RSO division and shall support the daily operations of the Ground Stations and their interfaces to the other components of the ground segments to ensure their maximum availability and reliability. This role will focus on the ground stations supporting EUMETSATs low Earth orbiting LEO satellites EPS, EPSSG and JCS but the engineer will also be expected to support the geostationary orbit GEO stations when required. In addition, the Key Person will be expected to acquire and maintain Systemwide knowledge of the Ground Segments, particularly in the areas of spacecraft monitoring control and the flow of mission data, due to the central role the ground station plays in spacecraft and ground segment operations. The tasks will include Longterm planning and shortterm scheduling of the operational usage of the ground stations to support both the needs of the Flight Operations Division FLO and Ground Stations engineering team Interface with project teams for the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects and major activities described in the Operational System MidTerm Evolution Plan. Experience in Quality Assurance, space system project control andor process modelling of largescale systems with a very good understanding of project development life cycle methodologies would be considered, providing that adequate knowledge and involvement in Configuration Management activities is also demonstrated. The Key Person will support the RSO division but shall initially provide support to the PRD department for the development and operations preparation of the MTG Programme focussing on system and ground station aspects, ensuring they are brought to a suitable level for the transition of the programme into routine operations. The role comprises a range of tasks across a number of different departments within our customer so the Key Person will need a broad knowledge of operational ground segments and how the ground stations fit into the general scheme. The Key Person shall also support the routine operations of the existing MTP, MSG and EPS ground stations, as well as their future evolutions.
