Consultancy Support Solaris and Linux System Engineer

The key person shall perform the following tasks Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance Analysis, planning and performance of Hardware HW and Software SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems Monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions Ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures Liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Administration and installation of databases Administration of user accounts Support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades Provision of standbyoncall support Provision of support, as required, to critical operations In the performance of the activities the key person shall apply the relevant change control and maintenance procedures Mandatory University degree in computer science or equivalent Extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. At least 5 years handson experience with the following Solaris, Linux RedHat or SLES, High Availability software Sun Cluster and Veritas Cluster, Sun QFS and SAMQFS software in HA cluster environments, IT System design skills, preparation of technical documentation in English in a complete and clear manner. The working language for the position is English and therefore the consultant must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of French Optional, but considered an advantage Experience with the monitoring tool Nagios, VMWare Virtualization, RAID arrays EMC, SAN Brocade, backup and recovery systems Basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks ADDITIONALLY EU national or valid work permit for Germany CV in Europass editable format

SKILLS Mandatory knowledge and experience A University degree in a relevant engineering discipline The working language for the position is English and therefore consultants must be able to work effectively in this language and have acceptable knowledge of French. Domain Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the definition, development and maintenance of Mission Control Functions software applications for GEO space missions, in particular, experience in the whole life cycle of development of typical applications like telemetry and telecommand chains, automation schedule and procedure execution, operations preparation, analysis, etc... Good knowledge and understanding with working experience evidence of space relate standards ECSS and CCSDS related to spacetoground interfaces. System Development Maintenance Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in software development and maintenance following formal software life cycle processes resulting in multiple customer deliveries. This includes production of requirements, design engineering artefacts and implementation reflecting corrective and evolution software maintenance activities as well as new applications definition Extensive experience minimum 5 years in ground segment AIV related activities test procedure generation, nonregression testing, requirements verification and validation. Software Engineering Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in designing and developing software components and applications using Object Oriented OO approach including design patterns Extensive experience minimum 5 years designing, developing and programming software applications using C and Java under both Windows and Linux platforms Experience with formal software development environments like Eclipse IDE and Microsoft Visual Studio. Documentation and Configuration Management Skills Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools. Optional skills Domain Skills Knowledge with ESA mission control products, such as MICONYS suite e.g. SCOS 2000, NIS, etc... The tasks and responsibilities of the key person to be undertaken during the EPSSG Phase B and Phase C will typically include the following Maintain the system development logic covering all system elements, up to the time of the handover of the last satellite to the Operations Department Maintain a detailed system development schedule in coordination with all subsystems and partners, together with a critical path analysis of each version of the schedule Identify all interactions between subsystems and partners, and associate them with main system development milestones and the program work breakdown structure Provide inputs to the sections of the System Development Plan concerning system development logic, schedule and interactions Prepare and maintain Interactions Documents for partners, defining all interactions between subsystems, together with their need dates. Interactions will cover such areas as Deliverables hardware, software, databases, documentation, algorithms, test data sets, tools, configuration statuses, Support mutual review support, joint test and operational rehearsals preparation and execution, test data analyses, Access to services, sites, facilities, infrastructure and interfaces Manage the configuration of all schedule and Interactions Documents versions Follow up all subsystem developments and participate in any necessary meetings and reviews Track progress against agreed development plans and Interaction Documents and signal any likely or identified deviations from these plans, together with proposals to reduce the impact of any delays Provide regular summary reports on system development progress against the development schedule and the status of interactions SKILLS Mandatory University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent At least 5 years of experiencein the field of largescale system development Demonstrated ability to define system development logic and schedules and successfully implement them Demonstrated ability to understand the technical aspects of system components and their development constraints Proficiency with MSProject The key person shall be able to analyse complex development schedules, identify critical areas and produce accurate and concise analyses and recommendations. He she shall be used to working in a rigorous manner with formal configuration management of schedule versions. The working language at EUMETSAT is English and fluency in English is required.
