Job Description We are looking for an Onboard Computer Data Systems Engineer to support our client ESTEC. You will join a team that supports the Galileo 2nd Generation satellite Project G2B satellite. You will be responsible for the definition, implementation and procurement of the G2B spacecraft Avionics subsystems including the data handling subsystem DHS, Attitude and Orbit Control Systems AOCS and Electrical Propulsion Subsystem EPS. Your tasks will involve lead and coordinate specialized engineering support for monitoring the industrial work associated with design, development, validation, qualification and acceptance of the Avionics subsystems DHS, AOCS, EPS and associated equipment ensuring that these meet the satellite and security requirements monitoring the industrial activities related to the definition and execution of the satellite verification programme in the areas of responsibility, including implementation and monitoring of AITAIV activities on Avionics subsystems and equipment contributing to the control and management of the satellite budgets elaborating in the area of expertise the dispositions related to anomalyhandling, NRBs, NCR process, RFDW, etc. participating in project reviews and lowerlevel reviews in the relevant field of competence DHS, AOCS, EPS preparing the inputs for the Satellite Verification Control Board and Space Segment Control Boards processes reporting on all aspects of Avionics SubSystems and equipment development, proactive monitoring of relevant schedules, identifying risk and problem areas, proposing mitigation actions. Required Skills and Experience Minimum of 10 years relevant experience professional experience in the fields of space hardware related to platform and payload data handling equipment units, modules and boards, and some experience in the AOCS and EPS. Masters degree in networks, electronics, telecommunications or a related field is required Knowledge in the field of Avionics Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE will be considered as an asset. Reporting directly to the G2A Satellite Platform Manager, you will be technical responsible for the design and procurement of the G2A spacecraft data handling subsystem DHS. In particular you shall, within the programme guidelines and constraints as defined by the G2A Satellite Platform Manager provide expert technical support and consultancy to the Galileo projects regarding onboard Computer and DataHandling systems throughout all project phases lead and coordinate specialized engineering support provided by the Directorates of Technical Quality Management and Operation for participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and the evaluation of procurement proposals within the DHS perimeter identifying critical DHS development problems and assisting in their resolution monitoring the industrial work associated with design, development, validation, qualification and acceptance of the onboard Computer and DataHandling systems and associated equipment ensuring that these meet the satellite and security requirements monitoring the industrial activities related to the definition and execution of the satellite verification programme in the areas of responsibility, including implementation and monitoring of AITAIV activities on Data Handling subsystems and equipment. ensuring timely delivery of the Deliverable Items to allow preparation of inorbit operations in the domain of responsibility as foreseen by industrial activities included in the SoW elaborating in the area of expertise the dispositions related to anomalyhandling, NRBs, NCR process, RFDW, etc. participating in Agency project reviews and lowerlevel reviews in the relevant field of competence DHS preparing the inputs in the area of expertise for the Satellite Verification Control Board and Space Segment Control Boards processes Regular and ad hoc reporting to the Satellite Platform Manager on all aspects of onboard Computer and DataHandling subsystem and equipment development, proactive monitoring of relevant schedules, identifying risk and problem areas, proposing mitigation actions. In performing these duties, you shall ensure close cooperation with G2A Sat Security engineer and the other G2A team engineers close coordination with other G2A functions PA, Operations as appropriate to maximise efficiency in executing the project. Finally, you will participate in periodic meetings with the parent OnBoard Computer Data Handling section, contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned within the limits of mandated project confidentiality across the Agency. Mandatory skills background Masters degree in networks, electronics, telecommunications or a related field is required. Knowledge of the main satellite and terrestrial telecom standards is considered an asset as well as the experience with communication system HW prototyping and testing e.g. FPGA, DSP, GPU, microprocessors. Broad technical expertise in telecommunication networks design with particular emphasis on physical and link layer, and good understanding of multiple access telecommunication protocols. Good knowledge and experience in the use of communication simulation software tools e.g. Matlab, C is required. A few years of work experience in the field of complex digital communications systems, subsystems and networks is preferred. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule. Proficiency in English language spoken and written is essential.
