Key Tasks and Responsibilities To support the CMIPIPO director and the office you will have the following responsibilities Providing scientific support to the CMIP international project office Taking the lead in communication and organisation matters, including To coordinate CMIP scientific communication and outreach including communicating simulation protocols, setups, CMIP science questions context and CMIP model results To prepare CMIP reports, correspondence, publications To ensure CMIP is highly visible as a WCRP brand via appropriate communication and outreach tools. Identification, extractioncollection, analysis consolidation e.g. extraction of required data flows and specification of their characteristics. Specification, setup and running of Proofofconcept prototype in lab environment. Detailed specification of design andor solution, incl. detailed rollout plan. Specification of Integration, Verification and Testing procedures. Provide crossteam presentation and training on network infrastructure and service developments and deployments. Install and configure network equipment. Perform Integration, Verification and Testing. Contribute to specification and update of network systems, services and solutions roadmap and strategy Contribute to procurement of network systems and services provide equipment specification and costs estimation, provide service specification, compile detailed equipment lists, perform evaluation and comparison of offers on service andor equipment, contribute to supplier negotiations. See below what experience or knowledge you should bring Experience of network engineering in such environments throughout its lifecycle, from identification of needs to deployment and operations. Experience of carrying out specifying, preparing, planning and executing network engineering activities, including their coordination and technical guidance, working with other engineers within and outside the team involved in the activities, and with the customersusers and other stakeholders. Indepth knowledge of Cisco technology and solutions for these environments. Ability to present verbally and in writing network solutions and systems in a comprehensible way, with the specific ability to explain relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects. Ability to translate IT jargon into customer business terms. Experience of working in and applying the above skills in highavailability, alwayson production environments, driven by high availability requirements. Experience of interacting with suppliers of network products and service providers as part of network infrastructure, services and solutions development and deployment. Experience of configuring and operating network management and monitoring systems such as Netbrain or SolarWinds. Ability to automate network routine monitoring and maintenance tasks. Experience of supporting procurement of network systems and services In addition, knowledge and handson experience with the following is considered very desirable MSVisio application. Demonstrated capability of technical authoring structureorganisation of concept, design, and test specification documents, and of creating and working with technical network diagrams Visio. Voice Loop Systems VLS solutions based on VoIP. It will be considered beneficial if the key person holds a current Cisco certification or is able to substantiate equivalent experience. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The working language for the position is English. Summary Exciting opportunity for a climate scientist passionate about outreach, to join the Telespazio UK team, and lead the set up and execution of a brand new international project office IPO for the CoupledModel Intercomparison Project CMIP, in a role colocated with ESA Climate Office at ECSAT. Objective This prestigious post will provide scientific outreach, and communication support to the CMIPIPO and the Director. The CMIPIPO is expected to be the focal point for leading national and international entities in climate modelling, coordinating independent international teams and projects working toward a common goal. A more prominent role is foreseen for CMIP in bringing models and observations closer together, and aims to Better understand past, present and future climate changes arising from natural and anthropogenic changes Assess model performance in the past and future, including the representation in models Investigate predictability of the climate system on various time and space scales as well as making predictions from observed climate states Make multimodel output publically available in a standardized format Carry out work as directed by the Working Group on Coupled Modelling WGCM CMIPIPO operates under overall guidance of relevant CMIP governing bodies EGCM, CMIP Panel, WIP, and in close coordination with the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee JSC, and HeadWCRP Secretariat.
