Mission Control Operations Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Mission Control Operations Engineer for routine operations of the MSG mission, and operations preparation for the launch of the fourth MSG satellite. The engineer shall support the MSG Ground Segment within the Operations Departments Flight Operations Division team. The MSG Ground Segment monitors and controls the MSG satellites, and processes and distributes instrument payload data. Mission control support for other operational missions may also be required. Tasks The engineer shall mainly perform tasks related to mission control in support of Meteosat Second Generation MSG routine operations phase and during the operations preparation activities for MSG4. The tasks primarily involve the management and use of the MSG Central Facility MSG CF mission control system, and its operational interfaces. The tasks include Maintaining an understanding of the MSG mission, as well as space and ground segment operational needs for mission control within the CF, with the interfaces to the data processing chain and with external entities Performing the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the mission control operations concept in collaboration with the spacecraft and ground segment operations teams Liaising with the spacecraft operations team to support continuity and optimisation of new or modified spacecraft monitoring and control operational needs that are met through mission control Liaising with mission planning and flight dynamics teams to support continuity and optimisation of new or modified operational needs that are met through mission control Liaising with ground and system operations teams to support continuity and optimisation of new or modified operational needs that are met through mission control Defining and maintaining missioncontrol operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaising with external entities and partners, where necessary, in order to fulfil joint operations requirements and maintaining documentation concerning this Performing routine observations and preventative maintenance on mission control functions according to established working practices Responding to mission control related anomalies and operational contingencies promptly Raising anomaly reports when necessary and monitoring their resolution through attendance at appropriate review boards. Supplying context and initial analyses that may aid the investigation of anomalies Maintaining mission control related documentation such as facility user guides Contributing to the definition and raising of formal engineering changes concerning the mission control function, attending the relevant review meetings if necessary Contributing to the definition, implementation, and testing of any changes to the mission control application software or to inhouse supporting software, in liaison with any external contractors Contributing to the operational validation of new mission control application software, including testing of anomalynoncompliance correction and new functionality. Qualifications and Requirements Essential In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes At least five years of work experience in operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO andor Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems and their associated ground segments At least five years of work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software At least three years of work experience in operation of the MSG Central Facility system. Desirable Experience developing and maintaining operational procedures using the APEX procedure management system Experience in mission planning functions and systems as applied to satellite mission control operations Experience in the use of databases and SQLrelated querying in relation to spacecraft mission control systems Experience in the use of satellite simulators Experience in the use of Windows operating systembased satellite control systems Experience of using configuration management systems such as CVS Familiarity with flight dynamics functions as applied to satellite mission control operations Familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring Control Systems Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS Packet Utilisation Standard, etc. Familiarity with the SCOS spacecraft control system Familiarity with the EPOCH IPS MC product suite from Integral Systems now Kratos Familiarity with Unix and Linux operating systems.
