China Yarn Prices: Domestic and Import Markets (Weekly Report)

Spun polyester prices and polyester-cotton prices are sharply rising in China, over a surge of polyester staple fiber prices. Spinners have however been unable to increase their offers in line with the jump in their material costs meaning that margins have been reduced and that yarn prices could be further raised in the coming days. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. All data are available for download.

Cotton prices have dramatically fallen in the last week in New York, reflecting usual August volatility but also a lack of support from financial investors apparently convinced that prices will further fall below 80 cents. Cotton prices have also plunged in Pakistan where arrivals from the new crop could further depress cotton rates. Our weekly cotton report covers the international futures market in New York and China, and the physical indicator "A Index". Cotton yarn export prices have been raised in Pakistan, taking into account the rebound of cotton prices in the last weeks. Demand is however depressed from Far Eastern customers, our Pakistan correspondent reports. Yarn prices have remained relatively stable in the last days in India, ahead of National Day and a weaker weekly activity, consecutively. The fall of the Indian rupee in line with the Turkish crisis could offer support to yarn exporters. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices offering latest trends of spinners' margins. Market fundamentals are available on a monthly basis, including production and exports.
