Background EUMETSAT currently operates a fleet of 10 Earth observation satellites in low Earth and geostationary orbits for its own purpose and on behalf of the EU Copernicus programme, including four Meteosat Second Generation, three Metop, two CopernicusSentinel3 and one CopernicusSentinel6 spacecraft. With the planned launches of five Meteosat Third Generation and Metop Second Generation satellites planned from 2022 to 2025, this fleet will incorporate next generation satellites and comprise thirteen operational satellites by 2025. Furthermore, EUMETSAT will be the operator of the future Copernicus Sentinel mission to be launched in 2025 for monitoring CO2 in support of the Paris Agreement. Within the Flight Operations FLO Division and reporting to the Mission Control Systems Manager, the Mission Control Systems Operations Engineer conducts operations of mission control systems for EUMETSAT and EUMETSAToperated Copernicus satellite systems, and supports the operations preparations of mission control systems for new satellite systems What youll be doing Conduct operations of mission control systems across EUMETSAT and EUMETSAToperated Copernicus satellite systems, including planning and scheduling of routine and special operations, anomaly investigation and resolution, and configuration control and change management Participate in and, where appropriate, lead the coordination of monitoring and control operations and maintenance activities across EUMETSAT and EUMETSAToperated Copernicus satellite systems Maintain operations procedures, system databases and other operations products for operational mission control systems for satellite systems Manage system elements supporting monitoring and control of satellite systems e.g. tools for procedure development and execution, data analysis etc. Perform evaluation and trend analysis to monitor the performance and behaviour of operational mission control systems Assist in the management of interfaces with external operational entities supporting, monitoring and controlling of satellite systems e.g. ESAESOC, Sband ground station network providers etc. Support the definition, design, development and testing of evolutions for existing mission control systems Participate in and, where appropriate, lead mission control systems operations preparation activities for the launch, commissioning and routine operations of recurrent spacecraft Support the definition, development and verification of mission control systems of future EUMETSAT and Copernicus satellite systems e.g. SCOS, EGOSCC Assist in the provision of training for operations team personnel. Position Reference 923 We are currently looking for a System Operations Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. The key person will provide support to the EUMETSAT System Operations Engineering Team of the Realtime services and System Operations RSO division. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Service Level Management. Operations of systems including, but not limited to System and Ground Segment Operations Communications Networks Operations System Monitoring and Reporting o Operations Security o Operations Infrastructure Operations Training MultiMission Tools such as mass storage and archiving. Implementation, verification and operational validation of new operational systems and elements, and their evolution. Contribution to the system operations preparation and verificationvalidation for new satellite systems. Provision of support to anomaly investigation. Preparation and maintenance of operations documentation. Training of operational personnel for system operations. Contribution to the definition, development and operational validation of operational concepts for future satellite systems. Contribution to the system verification and validation activities for future satellite systems, including formal system operational scenario validation, SSVTs, AIV, Commissioning and operations rehearsals. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent in Engineering or in a relevant discipline. Proven experience in EO ground segments and system operations, preferably in an operational environment. At least 2 years experience in system operations of Earth Observation missions, preferably in an operational environment. At least 2 years experience in the system operations engineering of complex EO ground segments, and experience of verification and validation of such systems. Very good strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation skills. Very good interpersonal, communication and reporting skills and an ability to apply these to the interactions within a team and between teams in a multidisciplinary context, At least 2 years experience with UNIX Linux systems preferably in an operational environment. Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the operations of the service, including the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Systematic approach to work, with the abiliy to plan your own work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage complex tasks with minimum supervision. Capability to write accurate, concise, focused and consistent technical documentation and reports. Willingness to provide 24 hours a day oncall support, including during weekends and public holidays on an occasional basis. Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
