A Thermal Engineer is being recruited by Astrium in Stevenage. The successful applicant will be working on exciting and technically challenging missions and this will be an ideal position to expand your Thermal Engineering experience within the Space sector. The successful applicant will work on missions such as Bepi Colombo Mercury mission and Solar Orbiter both of which will operate so close to the sun that they will be subject to a solar constant 14 times greater than that experienced in Earth orbit. Alternatively, there are spacecraft such as Aeolus, Earthcare and Swarm which will orbit our planet Earth, gathering data on the planets behaviour and helping scientists understand issues such as global warming. There are numerous Telecommunication missions that enable people to connect with each across the planet. Last, but not least, you will be able to work extraterrestrial missions. Projects like Exomars Rover which will explore the plant Mars and Lisa Pathfinder intending to measure and improve the understanding of gravitational waves, predicted by Einstein. The successful applicant could work on whole spacecraft, instrument or unit thermal designs. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Act as project technical authority during life cycle of the project. Technical responsible for producing the system logical and physical architecture and ensuring its consistency through design, integration and validation phases. Manage technical relationship with customers. Coordinate a multidisciplinary team to develop a systemproductservice, through the entire lifecycle. Capture customer needs, define technical requirements, turn them into a feasible solution by proposing an architecture. Secure development process and expenses engagement by performing early validations and refining system requirements. Ensure accuracy and consistency of engineering requirements and designs, and ability to successfully manufacture. Follow up the manufacturing process and manage technical relationship with suppliers. Demonstrate the system performance through verification and tests. Deliver the system to the customer, possibly operate. Ensure system consistency link correctly lifecycle stages, control subsystems compliance, operate tradeoffs over disciplinebased constraints, smooth interfaces between specialised engineers. Anticipate and manage transversal technical and business issues, arbitrate between solutions considering all aspects reusability, optimisation, opportunity, schedule, quality, cost, risks, safety and performance. Will be expected to prepare, follow and report on the thermal testing of the satellites this includes the functional and performance testing of the thermal calibration Subsystem.
