JUNIOR SYSTEM OPERATIONS ENGINEER

As a member of the Mission Performance Team of the Realtime Services and System Operations Division RSO, the Junior Systems Engineer supports the engineering and rollout into operations of multimission monitoring, reporting solutions and other performance monitoring systems related to online data access systems and cloudbased platforms for data access services. The initial focus will be on developing capabilities to reach full proficiency in the area of operations of online data access systems and cloudbased data access service platforms in a 247 operational environment. DUTIES Support the operational rollout of upgrades to online data access systems, cloudbased data access service platforms and other multimission elements required for future satellite systems e.g. MTG, EPSSG, JasonCS Maintain documentation relating to multimission system operations Support the upgrade of multimission monitoring and reporting solutions and other performance monitoring tools, including maintaining requirements, reviewing design and technical proposals and coordination of validation test campaigns Support the analysis and evolution of other aspects of multimission system infrastructure and operations Support the configuration and routine operations of multimission monitoringreporting systems, online data access systems and cloudbased data access services platforms. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Knowledge of requirements engineering and methods and tools for verification and validation testing Knowledge and some experience of cloud and big data technologies Ability to work to tight deadlines under changing conditions, and strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of complex problems and solutions Strong teamworking and interpersonal skills Strong motivation to develop towards full professionalism in the area of multimission system operations engineering. University Degree in Physics, Computer Science or similar technical discipline. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme ECEP, for two 2 years with grade A1. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years duration will be awarded in a post graded A2A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63, and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A1 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 4393 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year. Reporting to the Ground Stations Operations Manager of the Ground Stations and External Interfaces GSEI Team, the Junior Ground Stations Operations Engineer and supports operations and upgrades of EUMETSAT ground stations and external ground station services. JUNIOR REMOTE SENSING SCIENTISTS 3 POSTS

Within the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP, the Junior Remote Sensing Scientists 3 Posts will support the development and scientific validation of environmental and climate products derived from data of atmospheric chemistry, optical imaging, and scatterometer instruments of the current and future EUMETSAT satellite systems and Copernicus missions operated by EUMETSAT Sentinels 3, 4, and 5. The recruitment of the Junior Remote Sensing Scientists 3 Posts will take the form of an assessment centre over two days, after which the successful candidates will be assigned to each post based on their profile and relevant strengths. During the application process, candidates will be asked to declare if they prefer one or more of the posts. Preferences will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. DUTIES Develop or improve algorithms for the extraction of weather and climate products in the areas of atmospheric chemistry, optical imaging or scatterometry, taking into account requirements from user communities Develop concepts for the synergetic use of observations from EUMETSAT andor Copernicus instruments Prototype processing software for the extraction of products from data of atmospheric chemistry, optical imaging, or scatterometer instruments Support the scientific validation of operational atmospheric chemistry, optical imaging, or scatterometer products, based on interactions with the user communities Assist with inhouse and external scientific studies relevant to new scientific concepts for the future development of operational products.
