Spacecraft Assembly Integration and Test Solar Orbiter, mechanical subsystems mf The Challenge We seek a mechanical AIT engineer to support the Spacecraft preparation environment and cleanroom working practice at our clients premises in England. The primary tasks and activities will include Mechanical integration, alignment and testing of electronic units, precision optical units, subsystems and instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, mechanical subsystems, instruments, payloads and spacecraft and control the related documentation Preparation of documentation related to test activities including test specifications, test plans, test procedures and test reports Design of test equipment, overseeing its manufacture, and commissioning Preparation and execution of environmental tests Vibration, Acoustic, Mass properties, Shock, Thermal at unit, subsystem, instrument and spacecraft level This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date August 2014. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, Masters Degree preferred. Job Description System Engineer for the Satellite Mechanical, Thermal and Propulsion Subsystems MTP. Technical responsibility for the MTP integrity, thus for system level activities including requirements engineering, mechanical configuration, structural design, thermal design and performance and propulsion design. Control of mechanical, thermal and propulsion engineering budgets Definition, planning and control of the mechanical, structural and thermal analysis to be performed in cooperation with the specific discipline specialists Definition, planning and control of MTP verification, including specification of test requirements. Control of mechanical and thermal interfaces for satellite and subsystems Coordination with the Lead System Engineer Leading of an engineering team within the project, including management of subcontractors involved in system level activities Desired Qualifications Degree in mechanical engineering, physics or comparable qualification Several years of professional experience in space industry as MPT System Engineer or in similar position Specialised knowledge in the fields of satellite structures, thermal control and propulsion subsystems preferably biprop systems as well as analysis Additionally conversance with structural, thermal and orbit dynamics analysis tools e.g. NASTRAN, ESARADESATAN, Ecosim Pro Several years of experience in a CD satellite project Ideally, experience in ESA satellite development projects Excellent conceptual and analytical skills Strong capability of leading engineering teams with well developed communication skills
