Role SCISYS welcomes applications from experienced Software AIV Manager to provide direction and commercial leadership within the Space division based in our Darmstadt office in Germany. We are looking for an ambitious, successful and results driven AIV Manager with a proven track record. Key responsibilities are Responsible for the management and supervision of a team of test engineers on a large multimillion project Active involvement in the day to day management of test activities and escalating issues proactively Allocate tasks and roles to the AIV team with clear expectations in terms of outputs, schedule and effort whilst ensuring the team remain motivated for the work. Take responsibility for overall AIV progress and use of resources and initiate corrective action where necessary. Liaise with the customer and our subcontractor regularly to ensure that expectations are fulfilled or managed. Liaise with the Project Manager to highlight any risks and to regularly discuss progress, alerting any exceptions and issues requiring action. Contribute to estimation and contract or change control negotiations, as required, as well as identifying the skills, resources and tools needed for the project. Creation and maintenance of the AIV plan, as well as management and reporting documentation. Document production in order to produce project test strategies, exit review documents, etc. Mentoring of staff within the AIV team Desired skills Proven experience in the management of AIV campaigns for bespoke software development projects in a technical domain Demonstrating ownership for the management of both test schedule and cost covering budget and risk mitigation strategies Experience of managing the whole software test lifecycle Knowledge of using automated test products Customer relationship management. Good people management, planning and organisational skills Team player and team leader Understanding of the space industry and associated technologies may be an advantage but is not a prerequisite for the role. About The Role We now have an excellent opportunity for a talented Group Leader within the RAL Space Assembly Integration and Verification AIV Group. The Group is responsible for the operation and development of a range of test facilities for the assembly and qualification of space hardware for both RAL Space and the wider user community. We have recently attracted significant investment for new facilities, alongside the construction of a new multimillion pound building. The AIV group is focused on both current facility operation and the provision of new facilities for users. Our facilities consist of thermal vacuum chambers ranging from 1m3 to 130m3, vacuum bake out chambers, a vibration test facility, precision cleaning equipment, inspection and metrology equipment and high specification clean rooms. All facilities are equipped with the latest instrumentation, and have modern computerbased control and monitoringdata acquisition systems. Due to expansion within both RAL Space and the AIV Group, a new Group Leader is required to lead the group through expansion and change, with new opportunities that new facilities will bring. Our future expansion will allow users to perform complete AIV campaigns for test items as large as complete satellites, as well as bespoke testing campaigns such as the calibration of space borne scientific instruments. Responsibilities will include managing and directing the 14 current team members, including managing their training and development needs to support expansion of the group acting as the face of this high profile group to stakeholders and interacting extensively with customers and reporting on programmes managing projects andor work packages, including movinginstalling new facilities responding to technical invitation to tender alongside the bid manager and expert colleagues reporting of group finance and schedule overall responsibility for ensuring COSHH standards are adhered and appropriate risk assessment are in place overall responsibility for ensuring the compliance of the facilities to the ECSS specifications and other applicable standards. About You Suitable candidates will hold formal engineering, science or technical management qualifications, ideally to degree level, but strong apprentice or ONC level or equivalent qualified candidates will be considered. Space testing qualifications are desirable. The successful candidate will demonstrate a technical background, ideally with experience of running a large facility, including practical experience in assembly and integration, however these are not essential. Primarily candidates should demonstrate significant experience of leading, managing, developing and motivating teams within a comparable environment. As the ideal candidate you will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present to high level customers and build relationships internally and externally. The key person is expected to demonstrate excellent planning, organization, interpersonal and communications skills to be able to follow industrial assembly, integration and test activities. The candidate shall have a demonstrated ability to work within a complex programme structure. The working language is English, and therefore an excellent command of this language is required both writing and speaking. Knowledge of German language is an asset. Main responsibilities You will be part of the TECSWM section, functionally reporting to the Aeolus Project manager As AIT AIV Engineer you will be responsible for the following Monitoring the AIT and verification plans produced by the satellite prime contractor and ensuring that they are coherent and consistent with the baseline schedule via regular AIT meetings at the prime contractors premises Identifying potential risks to the schedule and identifying workaround solutions and risk mitigations which can be implemented Reviewing and commenting test specifications and test procedures and participating to TRRs and PTRs as the representative of the project in coordination with the ADMAeolus Instrument and AIT, Engineering and PA Managers Monitoring and participating in functional test preparations debugging and assessing readiness for formal test executions including readiness of EGSE Participating in NRBs and TRBs as one of the representatives of the project Supporting the verification control process by review of VCDs and participation to VCBs Monitoring and enabling that there is adequate support for AIT activities and AIT reviews, both within industry and ESA Ensuring that environmental test facilities are in a state of readiness for the satellite test campaigns. You will be acting as an integrated member of the AIT and verification team in relevant phases, e.g. during extensive thermal test campaign in CSL. Supporting the Aeolus launch campaign ensuring the launch facilities are in a state of readiness for the satellite and are inspected and verified, that transfer of all GSE is completed and that these are verified prior to satellite launch readiness preparation consistent with the need. Furthermore, you will be monitoring the completeness of all AIT AIV activities up to launch in accordance with an agreed launch operations plan. Ideal candidate You should have a Master degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or at least 4 years of equivalent experience. Furthermore you should bring the following Extensive experience of satellite system level functional and performance testing Good knowledge of GSE operations and infrastructure Practical experience of working in AIT ideally for at least one complete satellite test campaign in an AIT role. Experience of environmental test campaigns preparation would be a major asset Experience in optics andor thermal system control engineering would be an asset Experience with CCS based on SCOS2000 SW Experience of satellite verification engineering Knowledge of ECSS standards in system engineering, testing and verification Good interpersonal, organisation and communication skills, with the ability to work in a diverse team environment An ability to work independently and to establish good working relations with ESA and industrial counterparts is essential Available to travel and work on shifts during mechanical and thermal test campaigns. Ability to travel to the Satellite prime contractors premises environmental test sites launch site frequently minimum of 50 and to act as onsite support where appropriate during the satellite test and launch campaign activities is required.
