Satellite Data System Engineer

This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a consultant with at least 3 years experience of design, development and integration of operational ground systems and experience of Earth observation processing systems. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. This role will be responsible for system engineering tasks, including definition and integration of the data handling and product processing systems. The key experience and attributes sought are At least 3 years experience with design, development and integration of operational ground systems providing 24x7 services Experience of Earth observation processing systems Experience of system verification and validation Familiarity with the Linux operating system, shell programming languages e.g. bash and high level programming languages e.g. Java or Python The ability to perform software modifications and developments for the purpose of integrating and adapting existing software packages into the established system Candidates should possess a university degree or equivalent. The working language is English. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 3 years starting in July 2013 with two options to extend for a further period of one year each. Satellite Controller Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will have the following responsibilities Test and validation of ground systems Preparation, test validation of spacecraft and ground operations procedures Training of operations staff Participation to simulation and test campaigns Configuration of ground systems Maintenance of mission databases Generation and maintenance of checklists, reports and documentation Console operations during Launch and Early Orbit Phase, commissioning and routine operations Operation of the monitoring control system and other ground software Monitoring of telemetry Performance of online and offline analyses of housekeeping data Execution of quick look and trend analyses Generation and uplink of telecommand sequences Generation and distribution of housekeeping and payload data products Investigation of anomalies Logging of operations activities Execution of handover between shifts. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University or technician degree in a relevant discipline Experience with spacecraft operations Experience with telemetry processing and command generation systems, and databases Willingness to do 247 shift operations Good knowledge of databases Fluency in German and English required Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
