Tasks and Responsibilities The Data Processing System engineer Mission Performance, Monitoring and Supporting Applications shall support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release process and necessary evolutions, including the necessary coordination of the data processing systems engineering for the related functions and interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from preparing and providing the support of the day to day operation and maintenance currently in the preparation phase, the analysis, and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Persons will be the focal point when it comes to integrating the individual SW Facilities into a data processing system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including endtoend testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. This may also entail the participation in the specification and development of specific monitoring tools for S3. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the S3 commissioning and initial operations phases. Experience and education The candidate shall have the following background 2 years of experience in maintaining and engineering of evolutions of large scale software systems missioninstrument data processing related. Experience in software development lifecycles Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, DBX, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems, preferably Subversion and CVS Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation. TASKS This is an opportunity for a motivated and experienced engineer to work for our EUMETSAT customer within a new and interesting space mission. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission in the context of the Copernicus Services set up by the European Commission. The first satellite, Sentinel3A, is expected to launch mid2015 with the second satellite Sentinel3B operating in tandem and due for launch 18 months later. EUMETSATs monitors and controls Sentinel 3 satellites and generates near realtime and offline products to support the marine user community. As a member of the Realtime Services System Operations Division RSO, the Key person shall provide support to the routine monitoring, development and operation of the Copernicus S3 dissemination systems. The duties range from the support to the operation of the various dissemination components, to the analysis, testing, and implementation of new data streams and monitoring and reporting functions. It also includes the settingup and implementation of operational procedures, and the coordination with external organisations and service providers. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have minimum 3 years experience in operations or software maintenance of realtime data dissemination systems, and be familiar with DVB satellite communications and ground segment operations. The Key person shall have significant work experience on operating system level in major Linux distributions and Windows Windows XP, 7, 8. For the accomplishment of the listed tasks, knowledge and experience of the following is mandatory Computer literacy, including Configuration, installation and scripting for Linux and Windows Evaluationanalysis of systemapplication events and logs Tool based presentation of logs and results Excel etc. Monitoring of near real time data flows in large computer networks Satellite based and terrestrial data distribution systems Provision of near realtime data services in a highavailability environment 247 First and second level support in data services Interaction with endusers Formalised hardwaresoftwaresystem testing Configuration control. Desirable requirements Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with the following DVB based receiveonly earth stations for satellite communications DVBS2 technology.
