Thorn SDS are seeking a number of Spacecraft Operations Engineers to join their team in Germany. Thorn Satellite Data Services Thorn SDS is an independently owned service organisation specialising in the placement, management and development of technical and engineering staff within a wide range of European Space Programmes. Tasks and Responsibilities Maintenance of spacecraft operational databases, related tools, procedures and documentation under strict configuration control Implementation and maintenance of tools needed to manipulate the S2K based databases, to create synthetic parameters and to support the data analysis tasks, as required e.g. MS EXCEL, MS ACCESS, Visual Basic, S2K Operational Language Organisation, training and operational readiness check of the spacecraft controllers assigned to the mission, in cooperation with the other Sentinels Analysts Collection of information data regarding the performance of the mission and provision of inputs for mission reports Provision of spacecraft control support in case of special operations or to cover unexpected absence of the SPACONs this task is expected to be necessary for only very limited periods of time Support the generation of operational reports based on inputs received from other FCT members Telemetry Data Consolidation and archiving Routine Mission plan generation supportchecking, as required. Spacecraft Operations Engineer Copernicus Sentinel1, Sentinel2 mf Ref.Nr. 158548 The Mission The Sentinel1 and Sentinel2 missions are part of Europes Copernicus Earth observation space program. The first in the series, Sentinel1, carries an advanced radar instrument to provide an allweather, dayandnight supply of imagery of Earths surface. The first of two spacecraft was launched in 2014. The second, Sentinel2, is a polarorbiting, multispectral highresolution imaging mission for land monitoring to provide, for example, imagery of vegetation, soil and water cover, inland waterways and coastal areas. Sentinel2 will also deliver information for emergency services. Sentine1 and Sentinel2 spacecraft will be operated from ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. The Challenge We are looking for a qualified Spacecraft Operations Engineers SOE to be part of the flight control teams supporting Sentinel1 and Sentinel2 spacecraft operations engineering services. The tasks to be performed are those typical for a spacecraft operations engineer, which include familiarizing with the mission characteristics, defining requirements for flight control systems, preparing and validating flight control procedures, validating ground systems used for operations, participating in spacecraft interface tests, and spacecraft performance analysis. We are currently looking to fill the current SOE positions Sentinel1 1. AOCS satellite operations 2. Data Handling, SBand and XBand satellite operations 3. PDHT and TTC satellite operations 4. Power, Thermal and SAR satellite operations 5. OCP, SAR and Platform satellite operations Sentinel2 1. AOCS and OCP satellite operations 2. Data Handling satellite operations 3. Power and Instruments satellite operations 4. PDHU, SBand and XBand satellite operations 5. Thermal and AOCS satellite operations The SOE positions within the Sentinels missions typically include the following responsibilities Validation, test and operation of the MCS, including the OBSM and Mission Planning System Validation, test and operation of the Simulator Generation, validation and maintenance of the Flight Operations Plan FOP Support to test and operation of the NDIUs, PSS and other operational support tools Support for FOS procurement, integration, user acceptance testing and system testing. Review of satellite documents Maintenance of the FOS spacecraft document library Support for the generation of FOS documentation, i.e. requirements, ICDs, test plansreports etc. Support to FCT training activities including generation of training material Support to spacecraft and ground segment AR resolution Support to the preparation and execution of the Satellite Validation Test SVT campaign LEOP support Commissioning support for the satellite subsystem Routine Phase operational support including o Responsible for assigned satellite subsystems o The performance of Mission Planning operations, o The preparation and execution of orbit control manoeuvres and any other daily and weekly o Operations activities. o Support to the oncall SOE rota, maintaining the mission history log and the generation of regular operations reports. o Support to Secure commanding operations These are full time positions, located at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, and starting in the second half of 2015. Working time is normal office hours, with occasional oncallstandby support outside normal working hours. Occasional travel within Europe may be required. Qualifications A good background in a scientific or technical discipline is necessary.
