Spacecraft Operations Manager Galileo mf The Mission Galileo is a multisatellite mission to provide high quality, high availability navigation data. Terma is looking for an experienced spacecraft operations manager to support our customer, the European Space Operation Centre, with the execution of the launch and early orbit phase LEOP backup operation for the Galileo mission. The operational facilities, tools and products required to support a Galileo LEOP on Soyuz have been developed and operationally validated. As a consequence the position focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance of the operations facilities, tools and products, and preparation and execution of LEOP. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Spacecraft Operations Manager SOM to be located at the customer site, ESOC. The Spacecraft Operations Manager is responsible for definition, implementation and execution of all mission Galileo operations. Individual tasks include definition of requirements for operational facilities and software preparation, generation and validation of flight operation procedures, LEOP operations timeline, operational databases, displays and onboard software maintenance tool and procedures establishing readiness of operations tools products and personnel execution of spacecraft operations, onboard software maintenance and inorbit mission evaluations and preparation and execution of system compatibility test campaign activities Establishment and upholding of technical interfaces to internal flight dynamics, mission planning, ground station and simulation teams and external organisations CNES, OHB, GFR, .. preventive and corrective maintenance This position will require periods of work outside normal hours. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date beginning of January 2015. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an aerospace engineering, computer science or other suitable qualification together with some professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications and several years experience as a spacecraft operations engineer. GALILEO LEOP Spacecraft Operations Manager

Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. This is a limited opportunity for an experienced Engineer to work as Spacecraft Operations Manager assigned to the Galileo LEOP. The position is limited to 6 month with possible extension. The position will start latest 1st of January 2015 preferable 1st of December 2014. The position is based fully on customer side in ESOC. Submission deadline for applications is 12th of November ResponsibilitiesDuties The Spacecraft Operations Manager SOM is responsible for the definition, implementation and execution of all mission operations activities. His responsibilities encompass the requirements definition for operational facilities and software, operations preparation, generation and validation of Flight Operation Procedures, LEOP operations timeline, operational databases, displays and onboard software maintenance tool and procedures. The SOM is also responsible for execution of spacecraft operations, onboard software maintenance and inorbit mission evaluations and preparation and execution of System Compatibility Test Campaign SCTC activities. The SOM is also directly involved in the operational decision making in the event that spacecraft anomalies occur. The operational facilities, tools and products required to support a GALILEO LEOP SOYUZ have already been developed and operationally validated with the 1st GALILEO FOC LEOP Aug2014, as a consequence the service mainly focus on preventive and corrective maintenance of the operations facilities, tools and products, and on preparation and execution of LEOP. GALILEO LEOP are conducted alternatively from ESOC Control Centre and CNES Control Centre Toulouse. Each shift is composed of a mixed team i.e. team members from ESOC and CNES The duration between 2 LEOP is either 3months if the next launch is a SOYUZ Launch 2 spacecraft or 6 months if the next launch is an ARIANE5 launch 4 spacecraft. For each SOYUZ LEOP 2 SOM out of a pool of 4 will be assigned one out of 2 from ESOC, one out of 2 from CNES. For an ARIANE5 LEOP, all 4 SOMs 2 from ESOC and 2 from CNES will be in charge of LEOP operations execution The SOM will be assigned to one or more GALILEO LEOP either as lead SOM or as a deputy SOM. For the LEOP to which the SOM has been assigned, the SOM will be responsible with its CNES counterpart for ensuring The readiness of the operations tools and products required to execute the operations The operational readiness of the Flight Control Team shift Spacecraft Operations Engineers and Spacecraft Controllers under its leadership. Timely provision of the inputs required relevant to the SOM service for the GALILEO LEOP reviews Operational Validation Readiness Review, Operations Readiness Review Execution of the LEOP, including supporting the Flight Operations Director for investigation and recovery of inflight anomalies Timely production and release of the LEOP operations report In the assigned period the 1st LEOP to be supported by the SOM will be operated from CNES control Centre. The current baseline is that GALILEO LEOP are SOYUZ LEOP dual spacecraft, however it is expected that during the period of the service an ARIANE5 LEOP quadruple spacecraft will have to be prepared and executed. The present planning targets for the next LEOP to either A SOYUZ LEOP not earlier than NET endFeb2015 An ARIANE5 LEOP before mid2015 When not assigned to a specific LEOP the SOM service shall ensure that the preventive and corrective maintenance of the operations organization and products. In particular this requires assessment of spacecraft and or mission changes and of their impact on the operational organization and or products, implementation and validation of such changes The provision of the SOM service requires a very close cooperations with the GALILEO LEOP Service Manager, with the other ESOC and CNES SOM and the GALILEO Flight Operations Directors The provision of SOM service requires strong interactions and interfacing with flight dynamics, mission data system, ground station and simulations teams. The provision of the SOM service will also require a close cooperation with GCCD GALILEO Control Centre responsible for the GALILEO constellation operations to which the spacecraft are handed over after the completion of the LEOP. The provision of SOM service requires frequent interactions and interfacing with the GALILEO Project Office GPO team and SC Prime Contractor OHB team. As part of the service mission and shift work have to be considered to Support the simulation campaign and the LEOP execution for those LEOP executed from CNES typically 10 simulations, LEOP duration 8 to 10 days Coordination with project team and spacecraft prime ESTEC and or Bremen Coordination with GCCDOberpfaffenhoffen QualificationsExperience University or similar degree in aerospace, electronics or physics Several years experiences with operational aspects of satellites. Essential Skills In depth knowledge of ESA PUS standard In depth knowledge of spacecraft design and spacecraft operations. Knowledge of GALILEO spacecraft IOV or FOC will be an asset Proven experience of using a SCOS 2000 based mission control system Proven experience few years in providing Spacecraft Operations Engineering Services operations preparations and operations execution, LEOP experience will be an asset. In depth experience with flight operations procedures development using MOIS Ground Segment knowledge at system level Working language is English, fluent level both in spoken and written is mandatory, French knowledge will be an asset.
