Cotton fiber and yarn prices have begun declining in China where demand is weakened by a seasonal drop of downward textile and apparel production. The sharp fall of the yuan is however resulting in higher cotton yarn import prices in yuan terms. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Cotton prices have further dropped on the international market, but could now stabilize over a continuously strong demand and a lower US production in the coming season than previously expected, due to the Texan devastating drought. Indian cotton prices have continued rising, as exports are boosted by the fall of the rupee and China's 25% additional tariffs on US cotton, as of next Friday.
