Cotton fiber and yarn prices have again risen in the last seven days on India's domestic and export markets. Demand from China could however be weakened by the sharp decline of the renminbi in the last days, resulting in even higher prices on China's domestic market in yuan terms. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices offering latest trends of spinners' margins. Market fundamentals are available on a monthly basis, including production and exports.

Spun yarn prices are slightly dropping in China, as a clear sign of the weakness of demand from textile and apparel producers in this part of the year. The current fall of the renminbi could protect domestic producers from a new surge of yarn imports. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Cotton prices have plunged at the beginning of last week in New York before bottoming out and possibly finding a strong support at a lower level. China's decision to release additional import quotas and to slash 25% additional tariffs on US cotton will have significant consequences in the coming period.
