A vacancy has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space for a Digital design Engineer within the Communication Processors Group based in Stevenage. The Communication Processors group is responsible for the development of Digital Processors for use in telecommunication Satellites. The processor functionality ranges from high capacity channelisers, supporting intersatellite optical data links, to implementing cryptographic algorithms to protect the spacecraft. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Decomposition of requirements into an architecture design and document the chosen design whilst describing any tradeoffs performed. Detailed RTL design in VHDL. Verification of the RTL design and documenting the verification that was performed. Gate level implementation of the design including synthesis, placement and static timing analysis. Support integration of the ASIC FPGA into the target hardware. Ensure that all ASIC FPGA designs are developed in accordance with the company design process. Support customer design reviews. Experienced in the complete design flow from requirements to design acceptance. Experienced in FPGA technologies and their tools including Xilinx ISE and Microsemi Libero. Experienced in VHDL simulation tools in particular Mentor Graphics Questa. Experienced in synthesis and STA tools ideally those from Synopsys. Good analytical skills and methodical approach to problem resolution and investigations. Good communication skills and able to thrive in a team environment. Ability to present technical data in a clear and concise manner. Experience of the Linux operating system would be beneficial. Knowledge of scripting languages including TCL and PERL would be beneficial. The location for this position is on one of the major sites of our client in Southern Germany. Our client is one of the key players in the European satellite and launcher industries. At this site around 2500 people are employed, working on space and defense projects. The space division is specialized in Earth Observation, Navigation and Science. The job holder will be working in a department which is involved in the development of Onboard FPGAASIC logic and processor solutions for Satellite Subsystems and Scientific Instruments. The scope of the projects range from mass memory, data processing and communication units, instrument control units, navigation equipment to power products. Tasks and Responsibilities Analysis of requirement specifications and generation of architectural concept of FPGA functions Transfer function from Matlab model into VHDL VHDL Detailed Design for Xilinx and Microsemi FPGAs and analysis of the designed components in regard to the appropriate VHDL guidelines and with use of the respective tools and checklists Simulation of the designed VHDL components using Mentor Questa Tool environment Synthesis, place and route to generate the FPGA programming file Generation of the technical documentation Support of hardware commissioning tests of the FPGA. Requirements Degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the space field Sound knowledge of VHDL Design and Verification for FPGAs Expert knowledge of Mentor Questa and MATLAB Experience in architectural concepts with processor cores e.g. ARM Cortex M in FPGA would be a plus Fluency in English is required and negotiation level of German would be an advantage.
