Spacecraft Operations Engineers for MSG4 LEOP MF Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. This is a regular opportunity for experienced Engineers to work in the domain of satellite operations operations preparations either in our premises in Darmstadt. The requirement is for Spacecraft Operations Engineering Services within the Studies and Special Projects Division HSOOSE, providing support for the Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP activity for Eumetsats Meteosat Second Generation satellite, MSG4. Services are required in the areas of CDMU AOCS TTCPowerThermal It is anticipated that services in these three areas would be provided by three different key personnel. The key personnel shall report to the MSG4 Spacecraft Operations Manager. MSG4 is the fourth in a series of identical spacecraft constituting the Second Generation series of geostationary weather monitoring satellites operated by Eumetsat. ESOC has successfully performed the LEOP for the 3 prior MSGs and therefore the development and preparation effort required for MSG4 is considerably reduced. The service volume is mainly parttime, moving to fulltime shortly before launch through to completion of the LEOP and subsequent reporting activities. The profile of the service is outlined below. The exact profile will depend on the progress of the LEOP preparation activities andor whether unexpected problems arise. The MSG4 LEOP is currently scheduled in the timeframe July2015. The duration of the LEOP is around 12 days for the nominal case. Handover of the spacecraft to Eumetsat is only performed once the target orbit is achieved and the appropriate spacecraft configuration has been asserted. The LEOP will comprise shifts based around the critical operations during the LEOP, like the prime manoeuvers and the instrument activities. It can be assumed that the shifts will be in the order of 12 hours, with the initial Launch shift starting in the late evening. During the LEOP and following the handover of the spacecraft to Eumetsat, the key personnel shall prepare reports on their subsystem including data analysis where appropriate. Data extraction and manipulation will be required from the Mission Control System and offline applications. The key personnel will take part in the typical tasks of LEOP preparation, including validation of the key components of the Flight Operations Plan FOP and the extended Mission Data Systems MDS. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Verification and Validation ownership of Flight Control Procedures and Contingency Recovery Procedures Development and validation of new procedures if necessary Verification and Validation of LEOP Timeline elements through minisimulation exercises Support to the validation of the MSG4 Mission Control System and extended Mission Data Systems Participation in the MSG4 System Validation Test campaign including execution of procedures and reporting Participation in the MSG4 Simulations Campaign as onconsole engineer for Ateam simulations Support role for the simulations officer in the MSG4 Simulations Campaign during Bteam simulations Specific Ateam participation in the MSG4 LEOP including subsystem reporting shift closeout Formal subsystem reporting for the MSG4 LEOP report QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE Key personnel should have basic knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems and a detailed knowledge of at least one of the following subjects Data Handling subsystem Communications, Power Thermal subsystems Attitude Orbit Control subsystem. Experience in ESOC spacecraft operations and the ground segment components necessary for spacecraft operations is considered desirable. Key personnel with prior experience of Meteosat Second Generation LEOP activities are clearly preferred as this reduces the amount of informal preparation required for the service. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, with specific experience on one of the 3 required subsystems Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Ability to work as part of small team, and be able to maintain composure and work with the team in pressured situations DESIRABLE SKILLS Familiarity with the current ESOC satellite control system, namely SCOS2000 Familiarity with the MOIS procedure development and maintenance system Experience of simulations campaign Experience of LEOP activities Experience of System Verification Test SVT campaign execution and reporting Experience of subsystem reporting including some offline data analysis BENEFITS Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities and Telespazio VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate.
