Operational Simulator and MCS Development, Test and Validation Engineer mf The Mission Our customer, ESA, develops ground software systems for supporting the Spacecraft Mission Operations at its Operations Centre, ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. ESOC requires qualified software development, test and validation engineers to support the development of spacecraft mission control systems and operational spacecraft simulators. Such engineers support ESA staff in the process of developing and maintaining the operational systems in use, for example by supporting the definition the specifications, supporting formal validation of developed systems, and assisting end users, such as spacecraft operators, in utilizing the systems. The Challenge We are looking for software engineers to support development, test and validation of ESOC mission control systems MCS and operational simulators. The engineers will have experience of Operational Mission Control Systems, based on SCOS2000 Operational Simulator Systems, based on SIMSAT ESOCs family of software infrastructure products Engineers will be responsible for the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of mission control systems. The following main tasks are involved Specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaign and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the ICT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. The work will be performed at the ESOC premises in Darmstadt, Germany This is a fulltime position as a Terma employee for placement at ESOC in Darmstadt, starting May 2015 or earlier. Your Qualifications Suitable candidates will hold a university degree MSc in Computer Science or similar, and have knowledge and experience in some or all the following Knowledge of operational simulators, its environment and the relevant infrastructure SIMSAT. Knowledge of operational mission control systems, their environment and the relevant infrastructure SCOS2000. This includes areas such as mission planning, automation, operational database, archiving, data distribution, etc. Knowledge and experience in the ESOC software engineering methodology and standards Competence in modern computer languages such as C, C, Java, UML, XML, SQL Familiarity with the ESOC software development environments and systems, including DOORS Familiarity with relevant operating systems, including LINUX Fluency in English written and spoken is mandatory. You will have the capability to work in teams, while at the same time being a selfstarter, able to work independently with little supervision. Telespazio VEGA has been the leading contractor on this Frame Contract to ESOC for over 30 years, currently providing a Service Team of over 80 qualified engineers and scientists. This frame contract providing support to ESOCs Operations Engineering division supports all ESAs mission, whether Earth Observation, Astronomical or Interplanetary from both the Satellite and Ground Segment perspective. To further develop its engineering activities in ESOC Telespazio VEGA is looking for several engineers who are interested to get presented in ESOC and are qualified for the following position Simulation Officer and Training Services MF RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Simulations Officers are responsible for developing the training concept and the associated Simulation Plan to train the Mission Control Team, in order to prepare them for the launch or other critical phases of an ESA mission. This includes planning and developing failure cases of increasing difficulty to be introduced into the simulations, in order to train the Mission Control Team in nonnominal operations and application of mission rules. Simulations Officers are also planned to be involved with the operational training of other staff, including but not limited to Ground Operations Managers and ESTRACK Control Centre ECC operators. The Simulations Officer service requires familiarisation with both the space and ground segment. Simulations Officers are also involved with general training and simulation activities at ESOC. For a particular mission, the Prime Simulations Officer is responsible for the delivery of training to the Mission Control Team, supported by a Deputy Simulations Officer. The Deputy Simulations Officer is responsible for supporting the prime Simulations Officer in the delivery of training. This includes assistance with simulator breakpoint preparation, testing of contingencies, writing briefing and debriefing messages, and running simulations. The preparation and implementation of the training and simulation campaign includes Identification of the facilities and configurations needed to carry out the simulations programme simulator, ground segment elements, tools etc. Support to the operational testing of the trainingoperations facilities, in particular the review of the simulator, including Simulator incidentproblem management Supporting the operational validation process by defining and managing the simulation campaign, including the development of mission specific scenarios and failure cases Preparation, conduct and post processing of actual simulation sessions Setting up training sessions on request from the operations team leaders covering mission specific aspects andor generic operations skills such as onconsole training, voice loop procedures training, etc. Assisting the Flight Operations Director in assessing the training status of the Mission Control Team. Providing reporting and lessons learned from the Simulation Campaign QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE A degree qualified engineer to join the existing Telespazio VEGA Service Team at ESOC ESSENTIAL SKILLS Experience in activities applicable to Ground Segment Operations Engineering Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Coordination and interaction with other service providers in operations and other fields.
