For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Mission Control System Integration and Verification Engineer fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The EUMETSAT TSS Technical and Scientific Support Department provides in an integrated manner scientific and engineering support to EUMETSATs programmes during the development and operations phases, and process assurance project control to the whole organisation. Within the TSS Department, the GSI Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division is in charge of engineering, maintaining and upgrading generic ground segment functions, services, infrastructure and tools in response to requirements of operational and future programmes. The Mission Control Applications and Tools Team under the GSI Division is responsible for the maintenance and evolution of all Satellite and Ground Segment MC applications and tools. This includes MC kernel, MC archive, Flight Dynamics, Mission Planning functions and the MCrelated tools. The key person shall work in the TSS Department as a member of the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team, which is part of the GSI Division. The key person will provide hisher prime support to the integration and verification testing of the Monitoring Control System, but will also support integration and verification activities at Mission Control Function level including Flight Dynamics and Mission Planning Systems. The tasks of the key person will typically include Integration Verification activities Integration of the various components of a Monitoring Control System and integration of the Monitoring Control System with the rest of systems in the Mission Control Function. These integration activities include software deployment, software configuration, adjustment of interfaces, analysis and solution to problems. Generation and updates of test plan and test procedures both for the Monitoring Control System and at Mission Control Function level. This activity covers functional verification testing and nonregression testing manual and automatic testing. Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results, troubleshooting of problems. Generation of test data and test tools that facilitate the software verification and nonregression testing Maintaining the verification status of the software requirement baseline for the Monitoring Control System Software Maintenance Activities Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation of anomalies in the software systems and verification testing of the fixes Technical Management Documentation generation and updates of technical documents Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as needed and requested Software engineering methodology Analysis activities focused on a common software engineering methodology and common software engineering tools for the GSI Mission Control Applications and Tools Team Development of tools supporting these common software engineering methodologies User Support Software support software support to the endusers of the application software Training prepare and provide training covering endusage and maintenance aspects of the mission control facilities Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of software maintenance and testing. The key person shall have skills and experience in software maintenance and testing with the following mandatory areas System Integration Verification Skills Extensive experience minimum 3 years in integration activities for Satellite Monitoring Control Systems. This includes software deployment, software configuration, adjustment of interfaces and troubleshooting of problems both at subsystem and system level. Extensive experience minimum 3 years in verification testing activities of Satellite Monitoring Control Systems following formal software engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system and generation of test reports. Extensive experience minimum 5 years in the investigation of software anomalies and verification testing of fixes, preferably in the domain of Satellite Monitoring Control Systems. Experience using tools for the automation of software testing Software Engineering Skills Experience in the maintenance of software applications following formal software engineering processes including at least configuration management, change management and anomaly reporting and tracking Experience in developing and maintaining software applications using Java under UNIX operating systems Experience in developing and maintaining software applications using C under UNIX operating systems Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting Documentation and Configuration Management Skills Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems. Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Tasks Java EE Development Support is required in the Enterprise Data and Application Team EDA of the Information and Communication Technology Support ICT Section in the General Service Division GES. The responsibilities of the Enterprise Data and Application team start with the collection and analysis of requirements for new multitier applications, Website and Intranet in close collaboration with internal and external customers and users. Tasks The Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department and in particular the System Engineering and Projects SEP Division is providing support to the development of new programmes and to the maintenance and engineering of evolutions of the operational ground segments. In this context, support is provided to the development of the Ground Segment for MTG Meteosat Third Generation, GMES Global Monitoring for Environment Security Sentinel 3, Jason CS, EPS SG EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation, which will ensure continuity of service to the current operational programmes MSG and EPS at the end of their life. Consultancy support within the Data Processing Systems and Applications Group of the SEP Division is required to assist in the specification, preliminary design, procurement, integration, testing and transfer to operations of Data Processing elements for future programmes under development. Support is envisaged in the context of EPSSG but the key person may be also assigned to similar tasks in the context of other programmes. As member of the Data Processing Systems and Applications Group the key person will be providing engineering support to the EPSSG Ground Segment team in the frame of the EPSSG Preparatory Programme Phase B, with support expected to be extended to cover the complete development life cycle in the next phases of the Programme. In the detail, the key person will support the following tasks Support to the definition of data processing concepts and their implications on Ground Segment interfaces and architecture Analysis of requirements and constraints imposed on Ground Segment data processing elements, including their impact and criticality Specification and maintenance of Ground Segment and lower level requirements in DOORS with associated traceability and verification methods, including the development of testing concepts and test scenarios Justification of requirements to be documented in the Ground Segment Design Justification File Maintenance of the functional and architectural model of Ground Segment data processing elements with the selected Model Based System Engineering MBSE methodology Contribution to the Ground Segment preliminary design definition to be documented in the Ground Segment Architectural Design Document Contribution to the Ground Segment Integration, Verification and Validation IVV approach definition for data processing elements Specification of Interface Requirements Documents IRDs Performance of tradeoffs to assess effectiveness, risks and costs of alternative architectural and technical solutions in the area of data processing Support to the compilation and maintenance of data processing engineering budgets such as data and products volumes, products generation timeliness Support to the procurement of Ground Segment data processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the contractor and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements Support to testing, integration and acceptance of Ground Segment data processing elements by reviewing testing documentation, managing procurement of test data where appropriate and evaluating coherence and adequacy of integration and system level tests In addition, the key person will also be regularly involved in the following tasks requiring interaction and coordination with other teams at System and Ground Segment level Review of System, Space Segment and Ground Segment documentation dealing with requirements, concepts, algorithms and technical analyses of relevance for data processing Review of instrument data processing algorithms and calibration concepts defined by the Space Segment with emphasis on their implications on Ground Segment data processing concepts, interfaces and architecture Participation in formal reviews and technical meetings at System and Ground Segment level Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree in the engineering domain or equivalent the key person shall have the following mandatory skills and experience At least 5 years of experience in engineering of Ground Segment data processing elements for Earth Observation missions, including requirements specification, definition of interfaces, architecture and testing concepts At least 3 years of direct involvement in specification, design, development andor procurement of at least two of the following Ground Segment elements Processing infrastructure for Level 1 and Level 2 data processing Level 1 instrument data processors Frontend and L0 processing The key person shall be willing to work within a multidisciplinary and dynamic context in cooperation with other teams.
