Linen Fiber and Yarn Prices in China (Quarterly Report)

Flax fiber prices have soared at the end of last year, according to latest available data, whereas linen yarn prices were also sharply rising. Whatever the rise of French flax production, the rebound of market prices from the end of 2017 is mostly due to surging demand for linen apparel triggered by a warmer weather and a rising attraction for natural fibers. Viscose fiber prices have slightly risen in the past seven days in China and Pakistan. Demand is negligible in China ahead of lunar year holidays whereas textile production is recovering by contrast in Pakistan. Polyester prices are staying frozen in China, after demand has mostly disappeared in the past days. With new year holidays looming, spinning mills have sharply lowered their operating rates whereas polyester production is also being reduced at fiber plants. Raw material costs are declining over a sudden fall of crude oil prices at the beginning of the week.
