The trade war with the United States may negatively affect the market activities whereas India has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of Chinese linen yarns. Polyester chain prices have continued plunging in the past seven days with operating rates being sharply reduced at PTA plants in order to limit the fall of prices which have consecutively bottomed out today in China. Polyester fiber prices have continued significantly dropping in the meantime. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Polyester staple fiber prices have begun significantly declining in the last seven days in China whereas filament yarn prices were even plunging in the meantime. The 10% fall of PTA prices in only two weeks could result in additional price reductions in the coming period whereas processors will maintain inventories at minimum levels.
