Polyester Fiber Prices in China, India and Pakistan (Weekly Report)

Polyester fiber prices were not far from bottoming out at the end of last week, before the start of national holidays in China. With crude oil prices now soaring and paraxylene surging, PTA prices have begun recovering. Polyester fiber processors could have to digest or pass a rise of more than 20% in their material costs since last June, if prices would eventually stabilize after holidays. Our weekly report covers the Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) on the domestic markets in China, India, and Pakistan. Polyester filament prices in China are also released, whereas the report includes a price comparison of polyester with cotton and viscose in China.

The sharp rise of crude oil prices has supported paraxylene prices in the past week, along with a tight supply situation in the Far East. PTA producers in China are struggling with large inventories which could be rapidly digested after the current holiday week in China, allowing polyester fiber prices to stop falling and possibly bottom out.
