Cotton Prices on International and Domestic Markets (Weekly Report)

Cotton prices have been weaker than expected in the past seven days on the international market, although hurricane Michael has devastated cotton fields in a series of US Southern states. Demand for US cotton is depressed by US-China trade war with Chinese buyers cancelling large orders. Cotton prices have sharply rebounded in Pakistan over a new depreciation of the rupee whereas prices are also staying strong in India. Our weekly cotton report covers the international futures market in New York and China, and the physical indicator "A Index". Cotton yarn prices are still supported by foreign demand for fibers and yarns in India, due to the fall of the rupee this year. Chinese demand for Indian cotton yarns has surged and should be further boosted by the sharp fall of Indian prices in the past weeks in dollar terms. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices offering latest trends of spinners' margins. Market fundamentals are available on a monthly basis, including production and exports.

China Yarn Prices: Domestic and Import Markets (Weekly Report)

Cotton yarn prices have continued sharply falling in the last seven days on China's import market, as a result of the currency depreciation experienced in the past weeks in India and Vietnam. Domestic yarn prices are depressed by a low level of demand whereas the fall of polyester fiber prices will further pressure spun polyester and polyester-cotton prices. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
