Configuration Management engineer Category Information Technology City Leatherhead, Surrey, United Kingdom Position ID J04151554 Permanent Full Time Position Description The project requires a Configuration Management engineer to support the Configuration Management of deliveries to the Galileo Security Facility GSF. The role of the CM Engineer will report to the GSF Product Assurance Manager in tasks delegated by him for aspects related to Configuration Management, Quality, and deliveries as defined in the applicable documents and standards. The prime objective of Product Assurance is to ensure that products accomplish their defined mission objectives in a safe, available and reliable way. The aim is to provide the optimum level of support that is consistent with the requirements of the Galileo Software Standards GSWS. This is to be supported by the proactive involvement of the CM Engineer in the definition and implementation of the project CM specific processes and procedures in order to provide assurance that the development and maintenance teams maintain an orderly and disciplined approach to their work and the configuration of the products produced. Candidates should have a good eye for detail, whilst working to high standards of quality, and also to agreed timescales either independently or as part of a team. Additional objectives include to support the implementation and administration of configuration management activities across the project to ensure that the CM activities are planned, documented and controlled in such a manner that all contractual requirements are satisfied in an appropriate and costeffective manner to support GSF Project PA Manager in CM matters This is an exciting opportunity to play a part in the development of Galileo, Europes satellite navigation system. Your role on the GSF project will require you to work with senior members of the team which will provide an exciting insight into how large projects and programmes run, this is therefore an excellent opportunity for a junior PM. We will ensure that you are familiar with the appropriate procedures for handling classified material which you will need to follow. The Galileo Security Facility GSF is being developed throughout the FOC1 phase of the Galileo Programme providing management of the Public Regulated Services PRS to Member States and a Galileowide security event monitoring capability. The GSF is intended to provide an interface between EU member states and the Galileo core system for the management of the Galileo PRS service and Galileo Security Monitoring. Essential Skills An understanding of Configuration Management, Quality Control and Assurance. Quick learner with initiative and a practical approach to problem solving. An eye for detail with demonstrable analysis skills An appreciation of the design, software development and verification complexities of large programmes Experience of working to high standards. Experience of Waterfall project life cycles. Desirable Skills Experience in a secure environment working to precise procedures following a methodical approach. Previous knowledge of Galileo including the Galileo Software Standards. Auditing Staff will be based in the secure offices in Leatherhead and Security Clearance SC will be required so staff must already hold at least BS clearance and be clearable to SC. The programme is mainly Leatherhead based and you are expected to be on site 5 days a week. Some international travel eg FranceHollandGermany may be required on occasions. One of our Space Clients in Germany is looking for a LEO Configuration Manager. This is a Consultancy Support position. The role would ideally suit a contractor looking for a long term consultancy role within the space industry. The submission deadline for applicants is September 7th 2015. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Managing the documentation under configuration control according to the agreed procedures and supporting the release of relevant configuration listsreports. Act as secretary of Configuration Control Board meetings, prepare and convene the meetings, analyse the proposed engineering changes, prepare the relevant Minutes of Meeting, and notify the external entities as necessary. Follow up the change process with the related action items, to ensure timely information availability on the status of changes. Track versions of hardware and software items and documentation according to the evolution of the configured items. Verify the hardware and software configuration status by performing configuration audits. Maintain up to date the configuration management databases. Support the drafting, review and update of the Product Documentation Trees, generate and maintain the Configuration Item lists. Support the drafting, reviews and update of the Configuration Management Plans and related Working Practice and Procedures. Support the definition and maintenance of Baselines at Programme, System and Ground Segment Levels. Issue Configuration Status Accounting Reports for the configuration items under direct responsibility. Support the definition of Configuration Management Requirements. Support technical reviews for Configuration Management aspects. Support Design Reviews, coordinating the distribution of the datapackage to the reviewers, in coordination with the Information Management function. Contribute to the advertisement and continuous improvements of applicable CM processes, procedures, guidelines. Document and perform validation testing on new Generic Dimensions Framework releases. Contribute to the provision of S.M.A.R.T. requirements for CM Tool enhancements Attend the regular coordination PRS CM meetings, report on the progress of assigned actions, raise issues requiring management attention, and exchange with other PRS CM members on respective experiences and best solutions to address common issues Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in computer science or engineering. Good English skills are essential. Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years conducting and implementing Configuration Management of large scale, softwarecentred systems in an operational environment, preferably for highavailability 24hday systems like e.g. processingproduction chains, data centres or satellite systems. Experience in Quality Assurance, space system project control andor process modelling of largescale systems with a very good understanding of project development life cycle methodologies would be considered, providing that adequate knowledge and involvement in Configuration Management activities is also demonstrated. Proven significant knowledge and experience in specifying, reviewing and implementing Configuration Management plans, processes and working practices, or at least extensive experience in providing management support to programmes or projects in development Significant experience in project development methodologies, and in particular in configuration management including the definition or review of upstream source code configuration management requirements, control of configuration evolutions of systems software, hardware, databases, satellite and ground system procedures, documents, media, COTS software and COTS Licences, up to the testing and deployment of new releases on configuration controlled environments. Extensive knowledge and experience with configuration management tools e.g. Serena Dimensions CM, Jira or Clearcase or business process management tools electronic workflows. Experience of software development on a medium or large size project. Extensive knowledge and experience with process modelling tools and techniques. Extensive knowledge and experience of a Configuration Management, Quality Assurance or Project Management standard e.g. ISO, ANSI, ECSS, CMMI. Proven experience in planning, developing and implementing training sessions andor coaching sessions to users and stakeholders. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience acquired in the frame of European or International space projects. Administration of a configuration management or business process management tool. SQL programming on Oracle or Sybase, and scripting languages such as perl, python or vb.net. S.M.A.R.T requirements, software testing methodology and tools.
