Sentinel 3 PDGS System Engineer MF

Telespazio VEGA Deutschland is the Prime Contractor for the development of a complex, decentralized Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS to support ESAs Sentinel3 earth observation satellite. Telespazio VEGA is seeking to appoint a Technical Officer to oversee the maintenance of two of the PDGSs key components, the Mission Performance Monitoring Facility MPMF and the Instrument Processing Facility IPF, awarded by Telespazio VEGA to subcontractors through ESAs Best Practice Procurement BPP process. The position is located in Darmstadt. Key objectives of this position include Managing the maintenance of the MPMF and IPF components at technical level Ensure the quality and performance of the technical solution and that it meets requirements Provide support to the PDGS Project Manager and Technical Manager at system level to ensure that the MPMF and IPF integrate into the PDGS coherently, including interfacing with the customer RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES Manage the technical baseline for the MPMF and IPF during the maintenance phase including o The requirements baseline o The applicable documents baseline, including Interface Control Documents and Product Format Specifications o The Customer Furnished Items baseline Performing a detailed technical review of documentation delivered by the subcontractors for change requests, in particular to ensure consistency with the technical baseline and coherency with the PDGS at system level Organising and chairing the formal reviews of documentation packages within a Panel including Customer and other Telespazio VEGA subcontractor representatives in particular the Design reviews and the Test Readiness Reviews prior to acceptance Performing formal acceptance of the MPMF and IPF maintenance software deliveries prior to delivery for PDGS integration, including reviewing functional and performance requirements compliance Managing the anomalies raised on the delivered MPMF and IPF versions within a formal PDGS Software Review Board Support the Project Manager and the Technical Manager with the daytoday management of the BPP subcontractor Supporting the PDGS System Level team as required Support the PDGS for the IPF and MPMF components in the validation and commissioning phase QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE A degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or equivalent Experience in general software development and software engineering ESSENTIAL SKILLS Understanding of space sensors data processing Detailed knowledge in at least one of the following Data processing of existing Altimeter and Microwave Radiometer instruments Data processing of existing Optical Spectrometer and Radiometer instruments Experience in the some of the following fields Instrument Processors and their products Quality Control activities to ensure that the mission products meet the product quality specifications and performance during the mission lifetime Calibration activities to achieve a proper characterisation and calibration of the payload instruments Validation activities to ensure the pertinence of instrumental and geophysical information such as the geometric accuracy by comparison with external data Monitoring activities to ensure performances in terms of products and auxiliary data generation and availability with respect to the timeliness requirements Understanding of Payload Data Ground Segment architecture Requirements Engineering Integration and testing activities including review of test plans Good command of the English language Knowledge of ESAs ECSS standards applicable to Ground Segment development DESIRABLE SKILLS Wider experience in space industry beyond MPMF and IPF Understanding of hardware configuration based on virtual machines Objectoriented design with UML and CASE tools Knowledge of LINUX software package and tools Experience with DOORS Experience with JIRAKT You must be eligible to live and work in the EU,the acquisition of a security clearance is mandatory for this position. CalVal Quality Control Software Engineer MF

This is an opportunity for a university graduated engineer in engineering relevant to the post, with at least 3 years experience in system design, SW development, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of large complex realtime data processing systems for Earth Observation missions, To support our customer in the maintenance and evolution of the EPS Ground Segment Quality Control Facility and CalibrationValidation Facility. The position is unlimited and fulltime, located in Darmstadt fully on customer side in EUMETSAT. Earliest start date is 15.09.2015. Submission deadline for applicants is 13.08.2015. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES The Key Person shall support the maintenance and evolution of the EPS Ground Segment, specifically the QCF and the CVF, of off line Ground Segment elements, specifically for quality control, calibration and validation, data visualisation and auxiliary data management and services. The application software is mainly developed in CC, PERL, and Python. For data visualisation a good knowledge in IDL and ENVI is desirable. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating each individual Facility into a system context, covering all aspects from early SW development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Person will also be expected to contribute to design and system engineeringreengineering activities in the area of expertise for existing and future production systems. Candidate areas are programmes such as, MTG, EPSSG, Jason, Saral, EARS, Sentinel 3, etc. Typically tasks will include Contribute to the definition, design, implementation and maintenance of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components with special emphasis on product quality control, calibration and validation, production monitoring and reporting. This task will mainly include o Maintenance and development of the QCF and CVF framework software o Configuration Management, building and distribution of QCFCVF software releases and patches o Contribution to QCFCVF software system design and reengineering o Support to the development and implementation of QCF and CVF tools e.g. in IDLCCFortran Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments and their maintenance and evolution e.g. QCF and CVF. This will also include Upgrade software, including implementing and maintaining new algorithms for product quality control and calibrationvalidation activities Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as o Support the Configuration Management process and the building and distribution of software releases and patches o Support to the development integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing o Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification. o Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies Perform standard SW engineering activities such as o SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected o SW integration and verification in the EUMETSAT ground segments Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures Support to the procurement and installation of software, and the coordination with external providers of support services Participation in meetings and formal reviews. QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes, skills and experienced. Experience in system design, SW development, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of large complex realtime data processing systems for Earth Observation missions. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of Data Processing applications within the Supporting Application Engineering Team. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary context in cooperation with other teams. The ability to maintain a system overview is essential. Heshe shall have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan their work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. They shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation.
