Senior AIV Engineer

RHEA is currently recruiting a Senior AIV Engineer to work on the definition and development of new tools to support the Avionics related assembly, integration and validation AIV activities for Launch Vehicles. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Liaison with endusers and other stakeholders Definition of user requirements and supporting the translation of these into software requirements Support to the software architectural design activities Software Implementation and Testing Definition and specification of representative demonstration test cases Demonstration and presentation to the endusers and stakeholders. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a technical engineering discipline At least 5 years of experience in AIV activities for satellites or launch vehicles, with a focus on Avionics including Development and execution of testing strategies for avionics software hardware Preparing Verification Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports against the requirements Use of test equipment and measurement techniques to verify and validate requirements Preparation of automated test procedures. Strong knowledge of software languages e.g. Java, C, Python, JavaScript, TCKTK, or custom test languages The following skills would be highly desirable Fluency in spoken French Launch vehicle experience Experience in space project management Formal software development experience to ECSS standards. Understanding and experience in electrical and environmental testing in a variety of contexts such as vibration, shock, thermal, burnin, TVAC Extensive understanding of instrumentation, interfaces and sensors Ability to work in a team under strict deadlines. One of our UK Space clients is looking for a Senior Opto Mechanical Engineer Responsible for contributing to Optomechanical system design. Key Purpose of Job To strengthen the Opto Mechanical Design Teams engineering capability. The role will involve all phases in the evolution of optical instrumentation for space flight Key Tasks Mechanical Engineering Tasks Working within the OptoMechanical design team and with optical, electronic and Systems Engineers to develop working designs for optical systems. Optomechanical system design from initial concept to detailed final design using 3D modelling tools. Complete manufacturing drawings to enable the designs to be manufactured Undertake integration of the mechanical components in the clean rooms, support optical and environmental testing. Maintain a design log, summarising each step in the design, development test process. Analysis Tasks Undertake thermal, static and dynamic structural analysis of components and at system level in collaboration with the Senior Mechanical Analyst. Analyse optical element surface deflections and provide feedback to optical design engineers. General Tasks Management of Work Packages Plan test campaigns, conduct manage tests, analyse and present results Detailed project planning Support manufacturing activities Develop the Bill of Materials to allow the MRP system to reflect the completed instrument Qualifications A good degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience. Demonstrate experience of the design, build and test of optomechanical systems, preferably as applied to space optical payloads. Relevant experience in some or all of the following areas is essential Mounting optical components, lenses, mirrors, prisms, filters, detectors etc, kinematic mounting principles. Materials and manufacturing processes. Precision engineering in harsh environments. Mechanical design using 3D CAD. Integration and test. FE analysis. Report writing. Costing and subcontracting. Customer liaison. Operation in a quality assured environment. Experience of mechanical testing. Knowledge Skills Excellent analytical skills. Competent user of FEA package such as Solidworks Simulation or ANSYS Workbench or similar. Competent use of CAD SolidWorks or Similar. Knowledge of drawing practice to BS8888. A good understanding of the principles and practices of FEA. Confidence to solve stress, kinematics, vibration and thermal analysis problems from first principles and the ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly. Competence in structural design and analysis. Competent in MS Office suite. High attention to detail is paramount to ensuring that the finished subsystems will function as designed. Proven effective communication with project managers and customers. Flexible able to work on a variety of projects. Good management, people and presentation skills. Our space client is looking for motivated, mechanical engineer to help to shape and influence the current and future flight spacecraft structures and mechanical systems. You will be working as a part of the project systems team for spacecraft layout and structure technical and development aspects and leading the mechanical design, analysis and test team. The role is varied and dependent upon the project size and phase. It will require the engineer to have good team working and communication skills and be able to present proposals, trades and design solutions to the management or customers in a confident manner You will report to the Structure and Mechanical Systems Functional Leader and will be mentored through spacecraft structural and mechanical systems proposals, developments by Senior and Principal engineers within the department. Key Tasks Senior Structural and Mechanical Systems Engineer Technical lead of structural and or MTP system Mechanical, Thermal, Propulsion design, analysis and test team for both inhouse and externally managed projects. Review of proposed structural and mechanical system designs ensuring that they are fit for purpose and that risks are identified and managed appropriately. Defining and organising appropriate structural and MTP development and qualification plans. Identification and management of structural and MTP risks through the programme, in support of the project manager. Managing analytical models of structures and sub systems under investigation and validation of numerical analyses. Developing environmental envelope specifications from launch documentation, analysis and test data. Management of structural and system mass budgets, estimating Centre of G positions and moments of inertia. Reviewing designs in terms of appropriate materials and surface treatments for mechanical component design. Leading offsite, normally national but sometimes international environmental test campaigns. Developing and maintaining appropriate schedule and budget for the structural and mechanical systems activities with the missions Project Manager, reporting any deviances from the agreed plan. Management of MTP requirements from customer specification down to subsystem and hardware requirements and subsequent compliance statement and validation plan. Management of equipment mechanical qualification status and disposition of mechanical NCRs and waivers. Qualifications A good 1st Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Experience Use of software packages including Smart Office, 3D CAD system. Proven and demonstrable analytical or design experience. Background in Spacecraft structure or other lightweight structures and subsystems. Experience in a high precision, high value and low volume environment. Exposure to spacecraft development and qualification planning. Good team working skills. Work package management.
