Polyester intermediate prices have remained firm in the last week, with MEG prices even recovering over a new surge of crude oil prices and over tighter glycol supply on the global market. Polyester fiber prices are giving signs of weakness, with filament prices now dropping for the first time in weeks. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Asian Contract Prices (ACPs) are also available for the PX, PTA and MEG markets in Asia, with 5-year charts and downloadable historical data.

Polyester prices have everywhere stabilized in the past seven days, over a weakness in demand from textile producers whereas polyester intermediate prices were eventually boosted by the rebound of crude oil prices. Textile fiber prices have further risen overall in the past four weeks, led by again surging cotton futures in New York and a sharp increase of crude oil prices after the US has withdrawn from the Iran nuclear agreement. Polyester, wool, acrylic and nylon have surged from their level a year ago, as reflected by our monthly report. Our tables and charts offer a 12-month price comparison of most used textile fibers, including cotton, polyester, viscose, wool, acrylic and nylon, all being available over a weekly basis through our csv file.

Viscose prices have slightly risen in China whereas further surging in Pakistan over the last week, with viscose raw material costs remaining firm. A slowing down demand and high inventory levels continue to depress the viscose market. Our weekly report covers the viscose/rayon staple fiber and filament markets over the last 12 months.
